It’s over for the Liberals, their time is up, and Justin Trudeau needs to call an election, take his shellacking and let his party begin rebuilding without him.

The chorus of Liberals demanding Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation has swollen to the point that it’s now fair to ask just who the prime minister thinks he’s still leading.

Days after the Ontario caucus — the country’s biggest by far, with 75 members — concluded it was time for Trudeau to step aside, Atlantic Liberals sent a letter to the prime minister indicating that “time is of the essence, and our caucus is of the view that it is not tenable for you to remain as leader.”

OTTAWA — Former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney is seriously thinking about running for the Liberal leadership if Justin Trudeau resigns, a source close to him says, as the government grapples with uncertainty over the prime minister’s future in the face of the threat of American tariffs and a snap federal election.

A source with direct knowledge of Carney’s thinking told the Star on Friday that the former central banker in Canada and the United Kingdom has been taking and placing calls with dozens of Liberals MPs and political organizers in the days since Chrystia Freeland’s shock resignation as finance minister rocked the Liberal government and preceded the greatest wave of calls so far for Trudeau to leave.

Well, well, the ‘Trudeau must resign’ momentum continues to build. Most notably from the pack that ran with him for nine years while this ideological, commie-loving nitwit ravenously gnawed at Canada’s strengths, rights and freedoms, prosperity, and national security.

But beware of the beta wolves, his good lieutenants, who are now menacingly circling the dancing Swiftie alpha leader. These wolves merely rented sheep’s clothing. They worry about one thing and it’s not you. It’s their own survival.

Winnipeg South Centre MP Ben Carr is calling for a change of leadership in the federal Liberal party, becoming the first Manitoba Liberal member of Parliament to call for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down.

“I do not arrive at this decision easily, nor do I make it happily,” Carr said in a letter to his constituents on Friday afternoon.

“I felt somehow as though I would be betraying my party,” he said. “As time has passed, however, and the further I reflected on the conversations I have had with those I represent, I concluded that it is in fact the opposite.”

OTTAWA — With Prime Minister Justin Trudeau returning from vacation on Friday, some Liberal MPs say the time has arrived for him to face Canadians and say whether or not he intends to resign.

Trudeau has spent the past two weeks since former finance minister Chrystia Freeland’s stunning resignation largely out of the public eye, at first staying behind closed doors and then setting off on his annual Christmas vacation, this time to B.C. Trudeau had said he would use the time to reflect on his future.

It is not the current government, which is in such turmoil that it is barely breathing, let alone governing. Its fall budget, masquerading as an economic statement, was basically dead on bizarre arrival, tabled minister-less and loveless in the House. Its lifespan is measured in weeks from when Parliament resumes, given the public statements of the Conservatives, NDP and Bloc Québécois to vote no-confidence. The Liberals’ prospects in the election that will ensue, according to the polls, are somewhere between bleak and Armageddon.

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should get ready to go to court if he prorogues Parliament to dodge an expected non-confidence vote in January, says one legal activist.

Duff Conacher, head of citizen’s group Democracy Watch, said he’ll be keeping a close eye on the prime minister’s actions in the coming days.

Nothing is guaranteed in politics, but for the Conservatives, the road back to power appears nearly complete. And it’s not due to a general anti-incumbency trend or voter fatigue, as some Liberal backers and apologists have suggested, to explain away their government’s failures and the resulting enmity felt towards their leader.

For mentally stubborn Liberals, returning to reality requires accepting that Trudeau’s charisma and surname will not mask his legacy of failure.
