Don Cherry doesn’t fit the Order of Canada profile. But we shouldn’t ignore his legacy

The Conservatives knew what they were doing – well, sort of – when they announced a petition to nominate former hockey commentator Don Cherry to the Order of Canada.

It’s a great cultural wedge issue: one that pits the millions of Canadians with fond memories of Coach’s Corner against the ostensibly smaller cohort of Canadians who still begrudge Mr. Cherry for his tactless comments that led to the segment’s cancellation in 2019. The Conservatives know that the Order of Canada, which was created back in 1967, has become something of a participation medal for a certain type of prominent Canadian – the kind who satisfies the palette of oyster-shucking Laurentian elites. Mr. Cherry, infamous for his rants about, for example, female reporters in locker rooms and immigrants not wearing poppies, upsets their stomachs. So by pushing them to accept Mr. Cherry into their club, the Conservatives put the elites on their back foot.

Foreign minister Anand declares Canada’s ‘mission’ is to ‘lead’ amid global disorder

The Liberal government leaned further into its emerging leadership role among the world’s middle powers, with Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand telling a London audience that now is the country’s time to lead internationally.

Making the keynote address at the 2026 Chatham House Global Trade Conference on Thursday, Anand said that a country’s greatness stems not just from its domestic successes, but in providing leadership that benefits the world.

Accused extortionists deported as part of CBSA crackdown on cross-Canada network

Weeks after CBC News identified two Indian nationals deported from Canada for serious criminality, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has identified the pair as proof of expanded efforts to disrupt extortion networks.

According to Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) records obtained by CBC News, Arshdeep Singh and Sukhnaaz Singh Sandhu were known to each other — and to the alleged “prime conspirator” behind a series of extortion-linked shootings at a Surrey, B.C., café.

Both men moved between provinces, wracking up run-ins with police at every stop.

Canada slips further in World Happiness rankings continuing a decade-long downward trend … oddly coinciding with Liberal Party misrule

Heavy social media use has contributed to a stark decline in well-being among young people, with the effects particularly worrying in teenage girls in English-speaking countries — including Canada — and Western Europe, according to the World Happiness Report 2026 published Thursday.

The annual report, published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford, also found that Finland is the happiest country in the world for the ninth year in a row, with other Nordic countries such as Iceland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway ranking among the top 10 countries.

Canada reports first annual population decline on record! Corporate Titans live in fear they will not be able to suppress wages!

Canada’s population declined by more than 100,000 people in 2025, marking the first annual decline in records that date back to the 1940s, as the federal government tries to rein in the number of temporary residents in the country.

The population decreased by 103,504 people, or 0.25 per cent, between Oct. 1, 2025, and Jan. 1, 2026, according to new estimates from Statistics Canada. This followed a decline of roughly 76,000 in the third quarter.

Electricity demand, natural gas production and renewable power expected to soar by 2050

Electricity demand is set to boom in Canada by 2050, according to new modelling from the national energy regulator released on Tuesday.

Israel looking for ‘significant change’ to how Canada handles antisemitism

Israel is pursuing a sweeping diplomatic and public relations campaign to convince Canada to change the way it tackles acts of antisemitism.

From the office of Israel’s president down to its ambassador in Ottawa, the message is the same: Canada must do more to curb threats against Jews.

But while the country’s ambassador is suggesting Ottawa should limit certain “freedoms” in order to deal with threats his government links to Iran, he hasn’t said which freedoms should be limited.

Tone-deaf statement aside Canada is likely past the point of no return.

In my many years of blogging I have witnessed the rise of Islam in Canada.

They have played the entryism card well appealing to the lust all pols have for votes.

It’s not going to get better, our system is far too corrupt, far too compromised to ever fix short of remigration.

Nothing ever gets better with Islam.
