David Haskell: Vast Majority of Canadians Feel Our Country Is Broken
Leger just released the results of its latest poll done for the National Post asking Canadians how they feel about the state of the nation. Seventy percent of the voting-age respondents said they agree with the statement that “it feels like everything is broken in this country right now.”
That number rises to 85 percent when you look at those who vote Conservative but drops to about half that, 43 percent, for Liberal supporters. Interestingly, these people live in the same country but it’s like they live in two different worlds.

The number of dead people in Ontario whose bodies were not claimed by loved ones or family members has surged in the last few years, according to provincial figures.
A total of 1,183 bodies went unclaimed in 2023 compared to 983 in 2022 and 438 in 2019, the Office of the Chief Coroner says.
Since 2019, there was been a 170 per cent increase in the number of unclaimed bodies.

A report examining the risk posed by a Calgary man who claimed to be a member of ISIS and appeared to be planning to kill gay people in the city was described by a judge as “troubling.”
Zakarya Hussein, 20, pleaded guilty in December to facilitating terrorist activity.
A sentencing hearing was supposed to take place Thursday but was delayed because a forensic assessment report was received by lawyers and the judge only in the last day or two.
Justice Harry Van Harten agreed to the adjournment but first noted the risk assessment conducted on Hussein by a psychiatrist was “kind of troubling.”

Problems with the Canadian navy’s new patrol ships have led to significant flooding causing excessive corrosion while other defects have resulted in mechanical failures involving anchors, sailors have revealed.
The flooding is centered around the area where the anchor cable comes into an enclosed deck on the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships or AOPS.
That problem resulted in an incident on board HMCS Harry DeWolf that saw severe flooding and the creation of a “salty sauna” environment that led to excessive corrosion, the Royal Canadian Navy sailors noted.
