Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney would do the best job at negotiating with U.S. President Donald Trump, over Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, and fellow leadership candidates Chrystia Freeland and Karina Gould, according to new polling from Nanos Research conducted for CTV News.

When asked “Which of the following politicians would do the best job at negotiating with U.S. president Donald Trump?”, two out of five, or 40 per cent of respondents, answered Mark Carney.

This is the result of the media propagated wave of TDS patriotism the LPC ordered.

OTTAWA — The terms of reference for appointing Canada’s first fentanyl czar will be finalized by the end of the week, Public Safety Minister David McGuinty said Thursday, who also committed the government to “absolutely” filling the role by the time the country reaches the end of its 30-day reprieve period from U.S. tariffs.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements about annexing Canada are not a joke, and are driven in part by his desire to see the U.S. benefit from Canada’s critical mineral resources, says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“I suggest that not only does the Trump Administration know how many critical minerals we have but that may be even why they keep talking about absorbing us and making us the 51st state,” the prime minister told a Toronto gathering of Canadian company executives, industry and union leaders behind closed doors.

In recent weeks, Canada has faced an unprecedented level of uncertainty, driven by federal politics, domestic policy debates, and major international trade tensions—especially the disruptive potential of tariffs.

A leading index of economic policy uncertainty, updated to include January 2025, shows Canada hitting a record high—surpassing even the peak uncertainty of the early COVID-19 months.

In just a few weeks, the United States under President Donald Trump has leveraged tariffs to escalate tensions with several countries, including Colombia, Mexico, and, of course, Canada. Critics argue that no country has caved to U.S. pressure, but the reality is quite different. We have.

Canada’s last-minute reprieve from crushing U.S. tariffs came after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled a series of measures aimed at controlling the trafficking of fentanyl, a key reason President Trump has cited for wanting to impose levies.

Fentanyl has flooded North America’s drug supply over the last decade, killing tens of thousands in Canada and the United States, and generating enormous profits for criminal organizations using basic chemistry skills, improvised equipment and home laboratories to produce millions of doses.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly talked about fentanyl as a major public health threat to Americans and holds Mexico and Canada responsible for allowing the drug to enter the United States. But last year, less than 1 percent of the fentanyl arriving in the United States came from Canada.

That 1% number is disputed and there is no data on the import/export of precursor drugs.
