Canadians are nearly equally split on whether the country is headed in the right or the wrong direction, according to a new Abacus Data survey.
The poll released June 23 of 3,080 Canadians found that 44 percent of them say Canada is on the wrong track, while 42 percent say it is headed in the right direction, and 14 percent are unsure.
OTTAWA – With little more than a week before the July 1 deadline to either renew or review the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement, U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra says officials are nowhere near the finish line.

A downtown Regina mosque says it has received threats after beginning a weekly amplified Muslim call to prayer from its rooftop speaker.
Regina City Jamia Masjid began testing the broadcast of the adhan, or the Muslim call to prayer, over the noon hour on Friday. The call lasts about three minutes.
“We are not here to bother anybody,” M Anisur Rahaman, director of the mosque, said. “We are here to meet and greet and share the knowledge.”

The Competition Bureau of Canada announced Monday that it is moving forward with its investigation into competition in the Canadian grocery store landscape.
The bureau said it obtained orders from the Federal Court requiring the parent company of Sobeys to produce documents and testimony for its investigation into property controls.
Property controls are legal agreements that can block competitors from setting up stores in certain places, limiting where a new grocery store can open.

A third straight month of rising gas prices from the war in Iran pushed the annual rate of inflation above three per cent for the first time since 2023, Statistics Canada said Monday.
