OPP investigating 45 extortion cases against South-Asian community in Caledon, Dufferin County

Provincial police say they are investigating more than 45 cases of extortion targeting victims in Caledon and Dufferin County over the last two years.

Investigators say since 2023, members of the South-Asian community have been targeted using phone calls or text messages in which the callers use high-pressure intimidation tactics to solicit money while threatening violence.

One of those victims recently spoke to OMNI News after receiving death threats against his family and having their business and home targeted by gunfire.

They seem to operate without fear perhaps because they can claim asylum if caught!

Rob Reiner and his wife had throat slit at LA mansion as ‘family member’ is questioned

Horrific details on the nature of Rob Reiner and his wife’s murder have emerged after their dead bodies were found inside their Los Angeles mansion.

Hollywood legend Reiner, 78, made many of the best-known movies of the 1980s and 1990s, including Stand By Me and The Princess Bride in 1987, legal thriller A Few Good Men in 1992 and romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally in 1989.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to Mr and Mrs Reiner’s home at about 3.30pm on Sunday and found a man, 78, and a woman, 68, dead in the property.

Canadians under 35 are debt-stressed — and buy now, pay later ubiquity isn’t helping

Mark Kalinowski has been a credit counsellor for nearly 14 years, helping people of all generations manage their debt. But this year, more than a quarter of the clients he saw in his Calgary office were under the age of 35.

“They’ll come in and sometimes they’ll cry, sometimes they’ll be angry, they’ll be very, very frustrated because they don’t know why their life’s on hold,” said Kalinowski.

The Credit Counselling Society — the debt management non-profit where Kalinowski works — served more 18-to-34-year-olds in 2025 than at any other point in its history, its spokesperson told CBC News.

WTF? Person of interest in Brown University shooting released as investigation ‘now points in different direction’

A 24-year-old man who authorities apprehended in connection with the Brown University mass shooting was released from custody and the real gunman is still at large, authorities announced during a surprise press conference late Sunday night.

Benjamin Erickson was cuffed just before dawn on Sunday at a Hampton Inn hotel near Brown University — but now investigators are saying they had the wrong guy.

The Lib-left were so happy it was a white guy too!

StatCan seeking advice on how to share secret census data on transgender children ‘O to 14’

Statistics Canada is seeking feedback from various groups on options for releasing data collected during the last census, but not publicly shared, on transgender and nonbinary children from toddlers and pre-schoolers to young teens.

In a consultation guide, the federal agency said it “may be breaking new ground” as the first national statistics office in the world to disseminate gender information for children and youth under 15.

Bondi Beach terror survivor describes how cops ‘froze’ during 20-minute shooting rampage by Muslim terrorists

One of the survivors of the terror attack at a Bondi Beach Hanukkah celebration said four police officers just “froze” during the 20-minute rampage on Sunday that killed 11.

Eyewitness Shmulik Scuri said he was with his family when the two suspects began firing at the crowd of worshippers from a nearby bridge.

“For 20 minutes. They shoot, shoot. Change magazines. And just shoot,” the witness told reporters

Stanford Medicine study shows why mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines can cause myocarditis

Stanford Medicine investigators have unearthed the biological process by which mRNA-based vaccines for COVID-19 can cause heart damage in some young men and adolescents — and they’ve shown a possible route to reducing its likelihood.

Using advanced but now common lab technologies, along with published data from vaccinated individuals, the researchers identified a two-step sequence in which these vaccines activate a certain type of immune cell, in turn riling up another type of immune cell. The resulting inflammatory activity directly injures heart muscle cells, while triggering further inflammatory damage.

The Bondi barbarians

Barbarism has come to Bondi. Waking up to news this morning that at least 16 people have been killed, and at least 29 have been injured, following an anti-Semitic terror attack at the iconic beach in Australia, prompted that familiar mix of sickness, horror and grim inevitability.

As it stands, we know there were at least two (alleged) gunmen. One, Naveed Akram, was killed at the scene. The other, whose identity hasn’t been released, is in critical condition. The scum opened fire with rifles at a Hanukkah party. The authorities are thus treating it as an anti-Semitic terror attack, although it took some media outlets an oddly long time to put two and two together. Police are probing reports of a third attacker, and have found an improvised explosive device in a car.
