A civil servant accused of pocketing wages from five full-time government jobs has said he failed to disclose his multiple roles because he was suffering from stress.

Kashim Chowdhury, 55, is accused of exploiting the post-Covid work-from-home culture to take on multiple roles from unwitting government departments.

He allegedly lied multiple times to secure overlapping jobs with employers including the Food Standards Agency, Home Office and Department for Business and Trade

Says something about the civil service.

OTTAWA — The money was scammed from Canadian victims. The Romanian theft-gang operative sent to collect it, an Ontario fraud investigator said Tuesday, flew from Paris to Montreal and then crossed into the United States on a jet ski at Akwesasne, the Mohawk territory that straddles the borders of Ontario, Quebec and New York.

“Literally it was a two minute jet ski ride that this guy hopped on with a human trafficker,” said Detective Sergeant John Armit of the Ontario Provincial Police.

A new survey finds that nearly half of undergraduate students support censorship, shout-downs, and physical violence to suppress what they consider “hate speech” or offensive ideas.

Fox News reports that the 2026 National Undergraduate Student Survey, released this month by the Buckley Institute, shows that 45 percent of undergraduate students surveyed believe physical violence can be justified to stop so-called hate speech. That number is up 6 points from 2025 and ties the all-time record set in 2023.

Dozens of RCMP police officers are searching the headquarters of Canadian electric bus company Lion Electric as part of what the national police force is calling an investment fraud investigation.

As many as 75 police officers are taking part in the operation, which is targeting the company’s base of operations in Saint-Jérôme, Que., some 60 kilometres northwest of Montreal, RCMP spokesman Enrique Gasse said in an email on Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, U.S. Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) “requested additional evidence due to concerns over the validity of his marriage,” at which point Elmi pulled his application.

That is partly because Macdonald, the Canadian comedian and actor, was such an extraordinary talent: a man with a distinctly novelistic personality, full of hidden depths, profundity, moral courage, pathos and wit. But also because the Nineties and early 2000s, when he was culturally prominent, were simply richer than today’s America. They were more fun, less paranoid, freer and, somehow, more human.
