For the second time in a week, the federal government has tabled legislation that has prompted criticism from Alberta’s justice minister about Ottawa’s approach to firearms.

Ontario is reporting 1,150 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 65,400 tests completed. Locally, there are 376 new cases in Toronto, 264 in Peel and 108 in York Region.

Colleges stress public responsibilities as MD, nurse set to speak at rally against COVID-19 measures
As a B.C. doctor and a registered nurse get set to speak at a Vancouver “freedom rally” this weekend, their regulatory colleges say health professionals have a duty not to encourage people to violate public health advice on COVID-19.
Dr. Stephen Malthouse of Denman Island and Jeri-Lyn Bone, a registered nurse working in Surrey, are both scheduled speakers at a demonstration that promises: “COVID & Vaccine Truths Exposed by Real Medical Experts.” The so-called B.C. Grand Freedom Rally is co-organized by eight different groups known for their opposition to COVID-related restrictions, masks and vaccines.
A new poll from Ipsos found that 71 per cent of Canadians are “angry” that Canada is falling behind countries like the U.S. and the U.K. when it comes to the pace of our COVID-19 vaccine rollout. On top of that, just 43 per cent believe Canada will meet Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s professed timeline of having a jab available for every Canadian who wants one by September.

The dramatic announcement was made in a palace statement at midday today, and sees the Sussexes quit for good more than one month before the one-year ‘Megxit’ review was due to be concluded on March 31.
Buckingham Palace referred to the Sussexes as ‘much loved members of the family’ and said it was ‘saddened by their decision’. It also revealed the Queen had ‘written confirming that in stepping away from the work of the Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service’.

Support for maintaining a constitutional monarchy is in decline and many Canadians would also eliminate the role of the governor general, according to a poll by the Angus Reid Institute. The survey was conducted online Feb. 11-16 among a representative randomized sample of 1,601 Canadian adults who are members of Angus Reid Forum.

Flynn was removed from his position as Dedham High School’s head football coach for having the audacity to exercise his First Amendment right to free expression.

These are crazy times. A pandemic led to national quarantine; to self-induced recession; to riot, arson, and looting; to a contested election; and to a riot at the U.S. Capitol.
In response, are we focusing solely on upping the daily vaccination rate? Getting the country back to work? Opening the schools as the virus attenuates? Ensuring safety in the streets?
Or are we descending into a sort of madness?
Today’s obsession with ‘whiteness’ ignores the complexities of race
It’s only recently that I came across the idea of “Schrödinger’s whites”. This is the notion that Jews are considered to be white or non-white depending on the political perspective of the viewer. To those on the murkier reaches of the far-Right, Jews are not white; indeed their non-whiteness is considered a threat to the purity of whiteness. But to those on the progressive Left, Jews are often considered archetypally white — powerful, privileged, wealthy. Whether you see a Jewish person as white or BAME has more to do with you than it does with them. It’s a matter of perspective.
In the UK a line was crossed when we enforced the first lockdown.
History attests that the defeat of a civilisation involves not only its political eclipse, but also the collapse of its values. The relationship between the two varies significantly. Sometimes, a defeated people are forced to adopt their conqueror’s beliefs; hence survivors of the American conquests were assimilated into white culture, to ‘kill the Indian and save the man’. At other times, a lack of conviction creates inner weakness, until, as in Rome, the barbarians have only to shove on the rotten gates to induce their collapse.
