Ontario reports more than 300 new COVID-19 cases, 3 more deaths
Ontario’s daily COVID-19 case count continues to hover between 300 and 400 new infections per day and infectious diseases experts are cautioning that a surge in cases is expected in the coming weeks.
Provincial health officials recorded 324 new cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus today, on par with the 321 new cases confirmed on Tuesday but up substantially from the 139 infections reported just one week ago.

With COVID-19 cases rising in multiple provinces after a summer lull, more signs point to Canada entering an expected fourth wave of the pandemic — one which could be dramatically different from earlier surges, thanks to rising vaccination rates, but not entirely pain-free.
The country’s seven-day average for new daily cases is now close to 1,300 — an increase of nearly 60 per cent over the previous week, with cases ticking back up mainly in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec.

An SAS soldier who fought terrorists in a Kenyan hotel siege while off-duty has been forced to reveal his identity after people kept impersonating him on social media and in pubs near the elite force’s Hereford base.

Despite their supposedly secretive nature, these agencies often seem to employ even more aggressive publicists than SEAL Team Six and leak what passes for intelligence to force the hand of a president they are supposed to serve. When he ordered the review, Biden forecast that the agencies might not agree on a source of COVID, or might issue a posterior-covering report that stresses they present their conclusions with “moderate” confidence—shorthand for “guessing.”

The Catholic church in Canada has come under growing pressure to compensate victims of the country’s residential school system after the scale of its assets were revealed in a string of media investigations.
As part of a 2007 agreement, the church agreed to pay C$29m in compensation to survivors, but only distributed a fraction of that figure, citing poor fundraising efforts.
Now, reports by CBC News and Globe and Mail have suggested that the church not only controls more than C$4bn in assets, but also pulls in hundreds of millions in charitable donations and constructed gilded cathedrals while claiming it lacks the funds to make good on its promises to pay compensation.
