Federal court certifies $1.1B class action against RCMP over alleged bullying, harassment

Holy Crap! Here comes that process server!

A national class-action lawsuit against the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, alleging failure to provide a workplace free from bullying, intimidation, and harassment, has been certified by the Federal Court of Canada.

The class action seeks more than $1.1 billion in damages on behalf of all current and former RCMP members and civilians, special constables and reservists who worked for the national force between Jan. 1, 1995, and the date a collective agreement becomes or became applicable to a bargaining unit to which they belong.

FUREY: U.K. police act as online enforcers for trans activism — could same happen in Canada?

The past couple of weeks has seen Canadians weigh in on the viral story of a purportedly transgender teacher at Oakville Trafalgar High School wearing what appears to be jumbo-sized prosthetic breasts.

People have strong opinions about what went down, to put it mildly. They’ve made their views known at a couple of protests and, of course, on social media.

Gun Control in Tough Spot in Increasingly Well-Armed America

The dream of a gun-free America has never been more ephemeral. While calls for gun control still abound, their effectiveness is thrown into question by the reality of gun ownership. And the disconnect seems to be growing.

Polls suggest the majority of Americans don’t own a gun and support stricter gun laws. Gun ownership has stagnated for decades, according to Gallup.

In reality, however, gun sales have been breaking records in recent years, with a significant portion going to new gun owners, according to industry estimates.

Pierre Poilievre is building bridges he was expected to burn

Pierre Poilievre did not win the Conservative leadership by using the subtle arts of diplomacy.

But in his first couple of weeks on the job, Poilievre has been making some choices — especially on the hiring front — that seem to reveal an interest in building as many bridges as the new leader had been expected to burn.

It would be a mistake to cast these developments as proof of a kinder, gentler Poilievre, especially this early in his tenure. But he is defying many expectations — by Liberals in particular — that Poilievre would launch into his new job in pure attack mode.

Seeking diversity, feds add inclusive language to application process for judges

OTTAWA – The Canadian government is making changes to the questionnaire prospective judges must fill out before applying for a federal judicial appointment.

The change is intended make the questionnaire more respectful by adding inclusive language for people to “self-identify diversity characteristics.”

Critics have argued Canada’s judiciary lacks diversity.

The questionnaires are a primary tool used by judicial advisory committees across the country to review candidates for the bench and submit recommendations to the minister of Justice.

John Ivison: If Canada can’t properly arm the Ukrainians, we can train more of them to fight

OTTAWA — For decades, Prestwick Airport was the only airport in Scotland offering transatlantic flights — hundreds of thousands of Scots flew to their new home in Canada from the west-coast hub.

Now, Canadians are going the other way. In March, the military set up a facility at Prestwick to receive and redirect cargo aid to Ukraine. This week, Defence Minister Anita Anand said the detachment would be expanded to 55 Canadian Forces personnel and a third aircraft added to transport equipment. The facility now proudly boasts a piece of A4 paper with the words: “Welcome to CFB Prestwick” printed on them.

Parkland shooting trial: Can warning signs stop a mass shooting?

Prosecutors in a high-profile US school shooting case have argued that the gunman should get the death penalty. While each mass shooting in the US is its own tragedy, experts say the killers share many things in common. Could identifying these traits help stop the next attack?

In the days and months leading up to the attack in Parkland, Florida, the killer listened to the same song on repeat: “Pumped up kicks,” by Foster the People.

The song’s plucky, whistle-tuned melody clashes with lyrics about a bullied teen who seeks revenge by shooting up his school.

When Iran’s ‘morality police’ came for me

The “morality police” came for me exactly 13 minutes into my lecture on gender and sexual politics in post-revolutionary Iran. Four sets of auditorium doors swung open simultaneously. In they came, boots pounding, weapons clanking. The Tehran lecture hall erupted in confusion as the komiteh, as the morality police are known, filled the room.

Antidepressants, Empathy, and Democracy

Is the American way of life threatened by the growing proportion of citizens taking psychiatric medications?

You can learn much about what a civilization lacks by observing what sentiments it elevates as an ideal. The ancient Greeks, who invented the concept of the “golden mean” between extremes, were, on the basis of Greek tragedy and historical accounts, given to wild eruptions of rage. For years now, Americans have exalted empathy as our king of sentiments, but on the evidence of everyday life, empathy is in short supply.

The U.S. Government’s Vast New Privatized Censorship Regime

Censorship of wrongthink by Big Tech at the behest of the government is government censorship, which violates the First Amendment

One warm weekend in October of 2020, three impeccably credentialed epidemiologists—Jayanta Bhattacharya, Sunetra Gupta, and Martin Kulldorff, of Stanford, Oxford, and Harvard Universities respectively—gathered with a few journalists, writers, and economists at an estate in the Berkshires where the American Institute for Economic Research had brought together critics of lockdowns and other COVID-related government restrictions. On Sunday morning shortly before the guests departed, the scientists encapsulated their views—that lockdowns do more harm than good, and that resources should be devoted to protecting the vulnerable rather than shutting society down—in a joint communique dubbed the “Great Barrington Declaration,” after the town in which it was written.

Fury over ‘special treatment’ for ISIS Beatle behind horrific beheadings

Fury erupted today over the ‘special treatment’ handed to a British ISIS ‘Beatle’ who killed four hostages as it emerged he would be spared spending the rest of his life in an American supermax prison after concerns were raised about his mental health.

El Shafee Elsheikh, 34, or ‘Ringo’ will allegedly not be jailed in solitary confinement at ADX Florence in Colorado – but instead he’ll spend his sentence at a less restrictive prison on the same site known as USP Florence High.

Elsheikh, from West London, received eight life sentences after committing ‘some of the most barbaric terrorist acts ever seen’ as part of the twisted ‘ISIS Beatles’ group which captured, tortured and killed a group of journalists and aid workers in Syria in 2014.

Whether the fake boobs teacher was a hoax or not it shows where the power lies

Last week there was internet uproar at the discovery that a male teacher in Ontario goes to work wearing breasts so huge they’d be absurd by the standards of a seaside postcard.

Photographs of this individual, known as “Kayla Lemieux”, were reportedly leaked by students uncomfortable with the situation. The fake breasts are indeed so gargantuan, and the nipples so prominent, that it’s difficult to see how anyone could wear them except as either fetish gear or a prank.

Abusive Man Evades Justice with Administrative Sex Change

A society in which individuals may legally select a gender other than their biological sex has had some tragic consequences, some concerning the legal protections alotted to biological women. One of these outcomes is on display in the media now. This summer, a Spanish woman, Carmen, was attacked by a man, Agustín, who months earlier had legally altered his gender to female: a maneuver that restricts the woman from prosecuting her attacker to the full extent of the law.

Space Force Promotes ‘White Rage’

“Only whites can be racist.”

“Over 200 years ago, Britain’s King George III was forced to accept a Declaration of Independence from former white subjects residing as immigrants in what was to become the United States of America,” reads a paragraph from a book on the Space Force’s reading list.

“Race Talk and the Conspiracy of Silence” by Derald Wing Sue condemns the “hypocrisy” of the Founding Fathers and claims that the United States “was formed from the fabric of racial oppression, domination and discrimination.”

It’s hard to imagine the Space Force doing anything less patriotic short of defecting to China.
