Canada-U.S. relations have reached the lowest point in our collective lifetime. Frustrations with U.S. President Donald Trump and tariffs largely changed the course of last year’s federal election. There’s been a staggering rise in Canadian nationalism and anti-American sentiments in the Great White North. Unfounded fears about annexation ran wild for a spell. Cross-border business and tourism, retail and supply chain issues have been affected, too.
Well, here’s something kind of interesting. The moral acceptability of the good people of the United States appears to be changing… for the better. We’re actually becoming more conservative and rejecting several progressive ideas, if this new poll from Gallup is to be believed.
The Toronto District School Board’s former top lawyer is suing the board and his ex-boss for more than $3.3 million, alleging he was effectively forced from his role after being subjected to an antisemitic and discriminatory work environment which damaged his health and career.
In a statement of claim filed on May 19 with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the board’s former interim executive officer of legal services, Paul Koven, alleges the board and its former general counsel violated his human rights.

The alleged knifeman in an “attempted beheading” that triggered riots in Belfast overnight has appeared in court, charged with attempted murder, knife possession, and threatening to kill an NHS radiographer.
A court has heard Steven Ogilvy, the victim of the “attempted beheading” in north Belfast, Northern Ireland, in the United Kingdom this week lost one eye and suffered serious damage to the other, as well as deep cuts to his neck. He remains in hospital in serious condition.
U.S. President Donald Trump is once again dangling the threat of withdrawing from his country’s free trade deal with Canada and Mexico, even though his trade officials are in talks on renewing it.
Speaking in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump said he is “not looking to renew” the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) when it comes up for a review on July 1, six years after it took effect.
While the agreement doesn’t actually expire until 2036, any country can withdraw from it by giving six months’ notice.

Only 11% of Europeans consider the United States to be an ally, a historic low, according to a survey by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) released on Wednesday.
Six months ago, 16% of people across 15 countries in Europe said they viewed the US as an ally, while in November 2024, when Donald Trump won the US presidential election, the figure stood at 22%.
The ECFR poll shows Europeans “embrace self-reliance and are clear-eyed about Donald Trump,” although they don’t expect the relationship to collapse entirely under the weight of the current challenges.
A majority of respondents said they did not think the US would come to Europe’s defense if it were attacked.

The US Central Command (Centcom) said on Tuesday it had “completed” airstrikes launched at 17:00 ET.
In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched a drone strike on a US base in Bahrain and a missile strike on a US base in Jordan, according to state-run media, and Kuwait’s army said it was intercepting an attack.
