FIFA is no Taylor Swift, new data shows. Why the World Cup isn’t delivering a massive economic boom for Toronto

The World Cup has been a bit of a miss for Toronto hotels. For other parts of the economy? It’s no Taylor Swift.

According to data released this week by payments processing giant Moneris, spending by international tourists in the Toronto area has been up in several key categories since the World Cup kicked off, but total spending by locals, domestic tourists and international tourist, has only been marginally higher than the rate of inflation.

No Taylor Swift will eventually be revealed as BIG Fat Tab for the taxpayer to pay.

GOLDSTEIN: Carney’s pivot on climate change the right move, but is it real?

GOLDSTEIN: Carney’s pivot on climate change the right move, but is it real?

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s pre-Canada Day pivot away from Justin Trudeau’s failed $200-billion-plus climate strategy, after supporting it up to late last year, is a classic example of what makes the public cynical about politics.

The timing was strategic, after Parliament had adjourned for the summer and the day before Canada Day, when Canadians were thinking about barbecues and fireworks, not industrial greenhouse gas emission targets.

“The Great Negotiator Carney” having zero success beyond Eurovision and accelerating ChiCom infiltration needed some good PR knowing CUSMA was not going to be renewed.

So he tossed some crumbs to the peasants by “renouncing” Trudeau’s nation killing green-scam.

Don’t believe it, Carney wants Canada destroyed as much as Junior did.

Next he’ll have CBC telling us that it was Poilievre’s idea to bail out his Developer bagmen.

Trump isn’t extending CUSMA trade deal, so what happens now?

The Trump administration surprised no one with its long-expected announcement Wednesday that the U.S. would not join Canada and Mexico in extending the free trade deal between the three countries.

Where things go from here, however, with renegotiating the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) is anyone’s guess.

One thing is certain: the deal remains in effect while the negotiations happen, as it doesn’t expire for another 10 years.

Invasive wild pigs in Ontario are being tracked down by drones with thermal cameras. Here’s why

Ontario is bringing home the bacon, or at least trying to by deploying drones with thermal cameras to track down invasive wild pigs before they wreak havoc to the local ecosystem.

The province uses Remotely Piloted Aircrafts Systems (RPAS) equipped with thermal imaging to ease their search on reported wild pig sightings, as these drones can detect feral hogs in thick brush.

There’s good reason to make wild pigs a protected species in the war against invasive species.

Bloated federal civil service costing Canadian taxpayers billions: CTF

OTTAWA — The Mark Carney Liberals may be giving Canada’s morbidly obese federal bureaucracy a much-needed shot of Ozempic, but recently released data show the problem could easily have been avoided.

Released this week, a new analysis by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation suggests that Canada could have saved $ 7 billion over the past decade if growth within Canada’s public service had been constrained to population growth.
