B.C. companies dominate Canadian migrant worker violations

B.C. companies have racked up over a third of all federal penalties for breaching migrant worker protection laws in the last decade, far surpassing every other Canadian jurisdiction, a BIV analysis has found.

Since 2016, B.C. companies have been fined over $6.1 million—more than a third of the nearly $18 million in nationwide penalties issued for non-compliance under the federal Temporary Foreign Worker and International Mobility programs.

Carney aims to sell Canada as reliable partner for trade in Southeast Asia

Prime Minister Mark Carney is pitching Canada as a reliable partner for Southeast Asia, one that’s committed to rules-based trade at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump is rewriting global trade norms.

He’s heading to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit, known as ASEAN, seeking to drum up investment into Canada that will help achieve the nation-building plans that formed a central plank of the Liberals’ election platform.

Migrants Committed Nearly 3 Million Crimes Since Merkel Opened Borders

Since former Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the gates of Europe to mass migration in 2015, immigrants in Germany have committed at least 2.8 million crimes, according to police statistics.

Responding to a parliamentary question from the populist anti-mass migration Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the Bundestag, the government has disclosed official Police Crime Statistics demonstrating that migrants are overrepresented in criminality.

Ottawa’s move to curb tariff relief for GM, Stellantis will harm country’s auto sector, manufacturers say

Ottawa’s move to impose tariffs on some vehicles imported by General Motors and Stellantis will harm Canada’s manufacturing sector and drive off investments, the Detroit Three automakers say.

The government of Canada on Thursday said it will reduce the number of vehicles the carmakers can import tariff-free, in response to production shifts by the two automakers that could cost thousands of jobs in Ontario. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said on social media the tariffs are a “clear consequence” of the “deeply disappointing” shifts by Stellantis and GM.

Russia massing nuclear fleet in Arctic circle ‘for war with Nato’

Russia is amassing nuclear weapons and attack submarines in the Arctic Circle as it prepares for war with Nato, Norway’s defence minister has warned.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Tore Sandvik said Oslo had detected increased weapons development on Russia’s Kola peninsula, where its prized Northern Fleet and parts of its nuclear stockpile are based.

He also said that Vladimir Putin was trying to gain full naval control over the Arctic region so that he could block Nato allies’ access to two key shipping routes that would help resupply Western forces in wartime.

Doug Ford and Gavin Newsom make Blue Jays-Dodgers World Series bet while taking swipes at Donald Trump

Ontario Premier Doug Ford and California Gov. Gavin Newsom are holding a “friendly wager” on the World Series and taking some digs at U.S. President Donald Trump.
“If the Blue Jays win, I’ll send you some of Ontario’s famous maple syrup, in a proper tin can,” Ford said over upbeat music in a video cutting between the two leaders. “The tariff might cost me a few extra bucks at the border these days, but it’ll be worth it.”

Ford needs an intervention.

New Trump-Canada Spat Spotlights ‘Captain Canada,’ the Ontario PremierTF?

Captain Canada is back.

Premier Doug Ford of Ontario, a populist conservative who has earned the moniker for headline-grabbing moves that get under President Trump’s skin, pulled off another dramatic moment with an anti-tariff ad that used 1987 audio of Ronald Reagan decrying tariffs as destructive.

Mr. Trump, in a late-night social media post Thursday, claimed the ad, which was paid for by the province of Ontario and has been broadcast since last week in the United States, was “fraudulent” and announced he was “terminating” trade talks with Canada.

An Algerian woman who raped, tortured and killed a 12-year-old French schoolgirl has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Dahbia Benkired, 27, was handed the maximum possible penalty by a Paris court for the killing of Lola Daviet, making her the first woman to receive a full life term in France.

The week-long trial into the 2022 killing caused political outrage after Benkired was found to have overstayed a student visa and failed to comply with a notice to leave the country.

How One Ad Sent U.S.-Canada Trade Talks Into a Tailspin

Canadian officials were just starting to get their hopes up.

Negotiators from Ottawa and Washington had spent weeks hashing out a potential deal to reduce punishing 50% tariffs President Trump had imposed on steel and aluminum, and the Canadians were growing optimistic in recent days, according to people familiar with the talks. The discussions were punctuated by an amicable Oval Office meeting earlier this month between Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Both leaders expressed confidence that they could get the trade relationship back on track.

The West is tolerating Third World behavior. No wonder it’s in trouble

Claudine Gay – Liar, plagiarist

I was on a panel recently talking about work visas and immigration policy. Despite some disagreement about tactics, we agreed more than I expected on policy. Something else struck me, too. We didn’t interrupt each other. We spoke in turn, deferred to each other, and otherwise behaved civilly.

These days, that seems rare. The Left-wing broadcast media is increasingly intolerant of particular views. A recent report from the Media Research Centre, for example, found that the supercilious CNN host Abby Phillip interrupted liberal guests three times but conservative guests 127 times during a “random sample of 10 episodes” of her news show. In that, she was perhaps just mirroring the West more broadly, in which supposedly “offensive” speech on subjects like gender or race is ever-more heavily policed.
