How Trump could hamper Zohran Mamdani’s New York agenda

Just moments after Zohran Mamdani won his battle to become the next mayor of New York City, the rising political star zeroed in on his next fight: taking on the president of the United States.

In his victory speech on Tuesday, Mamdani turned to the cameras to directly taunt the president: “So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up,” he said.

Minutes later, Trump responded on his social media site Truth Social: “…AND SO IT BEGINS!”

Chicago Mayor Urges UN To Investigate What He Says Are Human Rights Violations in America

Brandon Johnson – Loves Looting

Chicago’s mayor is urging the U.N. Human Rights Council – a body whose members include notorious abusers such as China, Cuba, Russia, and Qatar – to investigate what he describes as a “worsening human rights crisis” in America under the Trump administration.

The United States, meanwhile, on Friday became only the second country ever to refuse to cooperate with a routine review of its rights record by the council, which the Trump administration has accused of a “deep anti-American bias” and a disproportionate focus on Israel.

Mark Carney’s budget is blind to the real causes of Canada’s problems

On November 4, François-Philippe Champagne described the 2025 federal budget as “generational.” In doing so, the finance minister offered a rare example of plausible political hype, without the usual hyperbole.

The challenges facing Canada are profound, and Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government has responded with a massive surge in military spending and a suite of significant investments in housing, infrastructure and AI — investments only partially offset by widespread cuts to other areas.

Criticism of Islam is a protected belief under equalities law, a judge has ruled.

Adam Pankratz: Land rights confusion a mess of David Eby’s making

In the never-ending saga that is now land title in British Columbia, another bomb has been set off. It has come to light that the Secwépemc First Nation is seeking a declaration of Aboriginal Title to the entire City of Kamloops, a city in British Columbia’s interior of over 100,000 people, along with the surrounding area, including the ski resort of Sun Peaks, an area with an assessed value of at least $43 billion. While no decision has been made on this claim, the Cowichan ruling from August, which declared fee simple titles and interests in the City of Richmond “defective and invalid” in the title area, has sparked a flurry of interest and panic.

Syrian killers who treated victims like dogs get away with murder

After militias called for the so-called remnants of the Assad regime to be ‘crushed’, massacres were turned into memes. Families fear they’ll never get justice

The widows saw their men forced to bark like dogs before they were killed. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians saw their final degradation, too, as well as the faces of the killers, as the deaths were broadcast on social media.

When Hadeel Nakher saw her husband Qais, 50, and son Ahmed, 30, for the last time on the screen of her phone, they were kneeling by a verge with two other captives, her brother-in-law and a neighbour, being beaten with belts and kicks by a group of armed men. “Bark, bark, bark, you bastards!” a jeering Sunni fighter yelled into their faces as the blows rained down. “I don’t hear you barking.”

Drug User Liberation Front founders convicted of drug trafficking

The two founders of a Vancouver “compassion club,” that sold heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine to drug users in the Downtown Eastside, have been convicted of drug trafficking charges.

Jeremy Kalicum and Eris Nyx founded the Drug User Liberation Front (DULF) in 2022 to provide uncontaminated drugs to people who would otherwise be at the mercy of an illicit supply tainted with potentially deadly fentanyl and benzodiazepines.

‘Vienna a security risk for all of Europe’ – Austrian police discover weapons cache tied to alleged Hamas terror plot

Austrian authorities, investigating suspected Hamas connections since early October, say they have dismantled a terror plot after uncovering a weapons storage depot in Vienna. In response to the weapons cache being discovered, the anti-immigration Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) stated it was once again an example of multiculturalism failing in the country.

Mark Carney’s budget is presented like an answer, but lands like a question

Mark Carney’s first budget has landed in a House of Commons deeply divided. Now, one of the first wave of post-budget polls shows that Canadians are similarly torn about the fiscal blueprint put before the country this week.

Abacus Data went out in the field the day after the budget was unveiled and came back with what it is calling “a muddled first impression.”

While awareness of the budget is reasonably high, it is eliciting two starkly different political reactions. Just over half of those aware of the budget, 52 per cent, said it was a step in the right direction, but 48 per cent said it set Canada in the wrong direction.

Just no pleasing the Star.
