Former Vancouver Mayor Says CCP Likely Interfering in Upcoming BC Municipal Elections

Former Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart says he believes interference by the Chinese regime is likely taking place ahead of the upcoming municipal elections.

Stewart, who led Vancouver from 2018 to 2022, says little has been done to prevent vulnerabilities that he says China exploited and which contributed to his 2022 re-election loss.

“I don’t think it’s resolved itself, and I’m sure there’s going to be interference in this election too, because nothing’s been done,” Stewart said in an Aug. 6 interview with political podcast host Aaron Pete.

AfD Opens 20-Point Lead a Month Before Crucial State Elections

The right-wing Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) has surged to a record 42% in a new poll in Saxony-Anhalt, putting the party 20 percentage points ahead of the governing centre-right CDU just four weeks before the state election.

The Insa survey, published on Monday, August 10th, puts the AfD up one percentage point from its previous result, while the CDU of Prime Minister Sven Schulze has fallen two points to 22%.

In Ireland, Jamey Carney, a 43-year-old woman from upstate New York, hooked up with a ‘Palestinian’ refugee she met at an anti-Israel rally and he beat her to death and then fled. In Norway, Maren Sømme, a 30-year-old woman, was killed by an Afghan refugee previously facing deportation for abusing another woman.

Americans hold Canadians in high esteem. The reverse, not so much

Despite all the trade-war rhetoric and “51st state” comments from the White House, Americans on the whole still have positive feelings toward their neighbours to the north. But from this side of the border, it’s a different picture.

A poll by Canada’s Angus Reid asked people from both countries about their perceptions of the other. It found that almost half of Canadians hold a negative view of Americans, with 29 per cent choosing “unfavourable” and another 19 per cent “very unfavourable.”

F-35 review part of ‘extremely complex’ negotiation as trade talks continues: McGuinty

OTTAWA – Defence Minister David McGuinty has acknowledged that the procurement review of F-35 fighter jets is a “point of debate or dialog” as tense trade negotiations with the United States continue.

When asked by reporters in Ottawa on Monday about whether the F-35 decision is part of the trade war, McGuinty said that “acquisition of that size would normally be a point of debate or dialog between two sovereign nations.”

“This is not the only factor involved in a multi-party, multi-element, multi-stakeholder type of negotiation. This negotiation with the United States is extremely complex,” he added.

‘Protect Our Christian Heritage’: Italian and Danish PMs Rally Europe Against Mass Migration

Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni and Danish PM Mette Frederiksen have made a joint appeal for a tougher European approach to migration, bringing together two leaders from opposite sides of the political divide.

In “A joint message for Europe”, published on August 10, the conservative Italian premier and centre-left Danish leader said Europe must both curb uncontrolled immigration and defend its Christian cultural heritage. “We do not accept uncontrolled immigration to Europe,” they wrote.

Matt Ridley recently argued that the defining political struggle of our age is no longer simply Left against Right. It is top-down control against bottom-up freedom. Government should protect rights, enforce contracts, and set fair rules. It should also possess enough humility to let people solve their own problems.
