Trump convenes ‘Shield of Americas’ summit with 12 Latin American leaders

Donald Trump changed the channel from Iran to the western hemisphere on Saturday, convening a gathering of Latin American leaders at his Miami-area golf club to discuss regional interests and establishing what he called a “counter-cartel coalition”.

“Just as we formed a coalition to eradicate Isis, we now need a coalition to eradicate the cartels,” he told 12 regional leaders gathered at what the White House called the “Shield of the Americas” summit.

“We must recognize that the epicenter of cartel violence is Mexico,” where “the cartels are fueling and orchestrating much of the bloodshed and chaos in this hemisphere.”

As Carney seeks strengthened global alliances, is it time Canada join the EU?

Since taking office, Prime Minister Mark Carney has made his desire to cut Canada’s economic dependence on the United States crystal clear. And along the way, he’s referenced Europe as a top destination for Canadian goods.

“As the most European of the non-European countries, Canada looks first to the European Union to build a better world,” Carney said last June at an EU-Canada summit in Brussels.

From that point on came steady and deeper integration. Canada has since signed a security and defence partnership with the EU, and this week the two sides agreed to enhance their existing free trade agreement.

Joining the EU would be like an orgasm for Carney.

Zelensky Sparks Fury With Threat Against Orbán

A diplomatic rift has erupted between Kyiv and Budapest after Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky suggested that Ukrainian soldiers could “call and speak” to those blocking a €90 billion EU loan—widely understood to mean Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán.

Speaking after a government meeting on Thursday, March 5th, Zelensky said the contact details of those responsible for blocking the funds could be handed to Ukrainian soldiers so they could “call and speak to him in their own language.” The comments quickly triggered condemnation from Hungarian officials and political figures across Europe.

In Canada’s major cities, fertility rates are in steep decline. What happened?

Every major city across Canada has seen a drop in fertility rates over the past five years – with many cities falling to record new lows – according to data obtained by The Globe and Mail.

While Canada’s fertility rate has been declining for more than six decades, it’s fallen especially steeply over the past decade, earning Canada entry in 2023 into the club of “lowest-low” fertility countries, alongside South Korea, Italy and Japan. The Globe and Mail requested data from Statistics Canada on fertility rates for major urban areas between 2020 to 2024, in order to understand how this has played out in our largest cities.

Anjem Choudary’s ‘right-hand man’ calls for sharia in Britain

A convicted terrorist and key lieutenant of hate preacher Anjem Choudary has been using social media to demand the imposition of sharia in Britain.

Mizanur Rahman, who was jailed alongside Choudary in 2016 for expressing support for the banned Islamic State group, has been exploiting YouTube and TikTok to preach radical Islam and claims sharia – the Islamic legal and ethical system – would eradicate crime and save the NHS.

In one video, Rahman, who was Choudary’s right-hand man, criticises the Muslim mayors of London and New York for failing to introduce sharia in their respective cities.

Trump and the truth about Europe’s ‘betrayal’, Part 1

WE ARE always being told by the more idiotic European and British political commentators that Donald Trump and his administration have betrayed something precious.

We are told that they have betrayed ‘the international rules-based system’. We are told that they have betrayed ‘the democratic norms’. We are told they have betrayed Nato. And we are told that they have betrayed their European partners.

We’ve been speaking to Iranians during one week of war. Here’s what they said

When Hamid heard news of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei a week ago today, he felt a wave of euphoria and took his wife and daughter into the street outside his home in Tehran to celebrate.

For the next few days, as US and Israeli bombs slammed into buildings across the capital, the family went onto the roof of the house to watch the airstrikes coming in, cheering every time a regime target was hit.

“Try to find anywhere else on this earth where the population would be happy with an external attack on their country,” he told me, via a cousin in the UK.
