Doug Ford being on Donald Trump’s naughty list cost him a meeting and reception with American business leaders Monday night. A planned reception hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and its Board Chair, Ross Perot Jr., was abruptly cancelled.
The meeting was one of the few that Ford’s office released details ahead of his trip.

They share the enduring view of the Laurentian Elite — the political, legal, financial and cultural gatekeepers of Canada in the Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto corridor — of which Arbour, as a former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Supreme Court justice, is a charter member.

Many Americans went to bed one week ago today presumably thinking Spencer Pratt was headed to the November runoff for Los Angeles mayor. After all, he was leading Socialist City Councilwoman Nithya Raman by thousands of votes on election night. But within a week, The Associated Press has called the race for Raman, after a wave of late-arriving mail-in ballots erased that deficit. Notably, Raman underperformed in her own city council district.
Among the realities of business success is reaching as wide a consumer base as possible. Marketing products that appeal to everyone, carefully focused advertising, and avoiding alienating any portion of the consumer base are essential. There are, of course, businesses that cater to niche clientele, where the usual tactics don’t strictly apply. Men, for example, aren’t going to buy many tampons, though these days, that’s not strictly true for guys pretending to be women, and it’s better not to contemplate what they might do with them.

It has been more than a week since the appalling case of Henry Nowak erupted into public consciousness. During that time, the story has been analysed from every conceivable angle. The failures of the police have been examined. Questions have been raised about race, justice and the institutional culture of the police. Politicians have traded accusations. Commentators have denounced one another. Social media has performed its usual function of turning tragedy into tribal warfare.
There is little that another scribe, let alone one writing from 10,000 miles away, can add to the facts of the case. The circumstances speak for themselves.
IN THE wake of US Vice President JD Vance’s comments about the ‘invasion of migrants’ in Europe, we now have the US defence secretary Pete Hegseth likening recent sea arrivals in Europe to an ‘invasion’, warning that freedoms won in 1944 remain under threat.
Hegseth’s remarks were delivered at the American Colleville-sur-Mer cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach in Normandy during commemorations of the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Late on Monday evening, a man in the Kinnaird Avenue area of North Belfast was the target of a brutal attempted murder. A circulating video of the event shows the attacker sitting atop his blood-soaked victim, apparently trying to behead the man. Several individuals attempted to wrestle the assailant off the victim, one using a hurling stick.

Yet another Ontario Provincial Police officer has been killed on Ontario roads in what has turned out to be a devastating day for the provincial service.

Chinese travel influencer Guo and his eight-year-old Border Collie, Chutou, were internet stars and together they amassed more than 1.5 million followers on Douyin, the country’s version of TikTok.
