Study claims Christianity associated with belief in ‘conspiracy theories’

A new study, published in something called the Journal for The Scientific Study of Religion, claims that both Christian nationalism and biblical literalism are independently associated with a greater tendency to believe in conspiracy theories. More to the progressive point, that study purportedly found when people believed in both Christian nationalism and biblical literalism, their distrust of government officials increased significantly. Egads!

In other words, they were more astute and less naive.

Oscars voters rip into ‘ridiculous’ new diversity rules for Best Picture

If it were released today, “The Godfather” would possibly have no chance of winning a Best Picture Oscar.

That’s because the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is beholden to new inclusivity standards.

Starting with the March 2024 awards, movies will not be considered for a Best Picture nomination unless they feature a lead or significant supporting character from an “underrepresented racial or ethnic group,” have a main storyline that focuses on an underrepresented group, or at least 30% of the cast comes from two or more underrepresented groups (women, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ or the disabled).

A San Francisco school district suspended a teacher for discriminating against White male students, according to California Public Records Act documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

Nicole Noel Henares allegedly asked White male students in her high school English class to stand up and answer if they “felt like a minority” during the 2022 fall semester.

Henares’ actions made the Lowell High School students feel “confused, sad and that there was no correct answer for them in that moment,” they said in interviews with the district.

USA vs Mexico: Match cut short due to homophobic chanting of Mexican fans

The international match between Mexico and the United States – two of the 2026 World Cup hosts – was cut short in chaos on Thursday following repeated homophobic chanting.

Fifa have already fined Mexico more than $100,000 for homophobic chanting during last year’s World Cup and, after issuing four red and eight yellow cards, referee Ivan Barton ended the match with four minutes remaining following a continuation of the offensive chants.

Under a photo of processed cheese, ham and crackers packed neatly in plastic, a Weibo user writes that to eat this for lunch is to “learn what it feels like to be dead”.

The post is part of a trend among Chinese social media users who are recreating “báirén fàn” or “white people food” to better understand – or poke fun at – western packed lunches made up of plain ingredients such as raw vegetables and sliced meats.

Scientists have created the first synthetic human embryos – using no eggs or sperm – provoking deep ethical questions, according to reports.

The synthetic embryos – only days or weeks old – could help researchers study the earliest stages of human development and explain pregnancy loss.

Nobody is currently suggesting growing them into a baby.

But the rapid progress has outpaced discussions on how they should be dealt with ethically and legally.

Asylum seekers sleeping on Toronto streets as at-capacity city shelters overwhelmed … and housing starts decline 23% nationally

Two weeks after the City of Toronto said it would begin referring refugee claimants seeking beds in its at-capacity shelter system to federal programs, asylum seekers who recently arrived in Canada are struggling to find places to sleep.

Birck Teklau arrived in Toronto from Ethiopia on June 3 hoping to claim asylum because, he says, of political persecution in his home country.

The 34-year-old says he’s been sleeping on the streets ever since — after being turned away from the city’s shelter system day after day.

“I tried many times…. They say that we don’t have [a] place,” Teklau said in an interview. “I never expected this from Canada.”

Perfect Manufactured Storm … Annual rate of housing starts in Canada fell 23% in May

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. says the annual pace of housing starts in May dropped 23 per cent compared with April as starts of apartments, condos and other types of multi-unit housing projects in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal fell.

The national housing agency says the seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts was 202,494 units in May, down from 261,357 units in April.

The proliferation of rats in Paris has become a matter of international concern. The French capital is suffering from an ever-increasing rodent population, to the effect that not a day goes by without residents coming face to face with these animals—whether in parks, on the metro, or in the city’s busiest streets. Unable to solve the problem, the socialist Town Hall has proposed the creation of a ‘committee’ to study how to ‘cohabit’ with these animals.

It is currently difficult to estimate the exact number of rats, a population that is by nature hidden and shifting. However, rat control professionals estimate that there are around 5 million rats in the whole of Paris, representing a ratio of 1.5 to 2 rats per inhabitant. Parisians come across them every day.
