Search teams are racing against time to find a tourist submersible that went missing during a dive to the Titanic’s wreck on Sunday.
Five people were on board when contact with the small sub was lost about an hour and 45 minutes into its dive.
The rescue operation has continued overnight in the mid-Atlantic but so far there has been no sign of it.
The five on board include British businessman Hamish Harding, and father and son Shahzada and Suleman Dawood.
President Biden’s son Hunter has reached a tentative agreement with federal prosecutors to plead guilty to two minor tax crimes and admit to the facts of a gun charge under terms that would likely keep him out of jail, according to court papers filed Tuesday.
Any proposed plea deal would have to be approved by a federal judge, and it was not immediately clear what day Hunter Biden, 53, might appear in court to enter his guilty plea.
The agreement caps an investigation that was opened in 2018 during the Trump administration, and has generated intense interest and criticism since 2020 from Republican politicians who accused the Biden administration of reluctance to pursue the case. The terms of the proposed deal — negotiated with Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, a holdover from President Donald Trump’s administration — are likely to face similar scrutiny.

Mulroney: nothing wrong accepting envelopes of $1,000 bills
OTTAWA – Former prime minister Brian Mulroney cited the brazen public nature of his cash transactions with Karlheinz Schreiber as evidence today that there was nothing untoward in their business arrangement.
Mulroney told a public inquiry that he accepted an envelope stuffed with 75 one-thousand-dollar bills from Schreiber at a hotel at Montreal’s Mirabel Airport and then climbed into a car with his RCMP escort with the envelope in full view.

The American Civil Liberties Union was formerly known for its principled stance on civil liberties. But today, it has become a group dominated by progressive ideologues. Illustrations of this shift are numerous, but a recent tweet about the death penalty is likely among the best. Not only does it show just how out-of-touch the ACLU is with the rest of the country, but it is also a masterclass in how not to campaign against the death penalty.
Here’s the story: On Saturday, the ACLU posted a graphic on Twitter reading “Florida has executed Duane Owen,” along with a caption saying “The state of Florida never provided medically necessary gender-affirming care to Duane Owen — causing her enormous suffering and violating her right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment for the more than 30 years she was in state custody.”
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is working on a platform that would allow various central bank digital currencies (CBDC) to interoperate on a global scale, Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva told participants at a conference.
“CBDCs should not be fragmented national propositions … To have more efficient and fairer transactions, we need systems that connect countries—we need interoperability,” Georgieva said in Rabat, Morocco, on June 19.
“For this reason at the IMF, we are working on the concept of a global CBDC platform,” she added.
WASHINGTON – Secretary of State Antony Blinken raised eyebrows Monday, telling reporters the US “does not support Taiwan independence” after meeting in Beijing with officials including Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Blinken’s statement ruffled the feathers of many Republicans in Congress, who viewed the statement – and the secretary’s inability to re-establish military-to-military communications – as an inappropriate kowtow to America’s greatest adversary.

The timing couldn’t have been better for Calgary-based Kanin Energy to open an office in Texas last year. It was just as the U.S. government unveiled its massive climate bill, including tens of billions of dollars in new subsidies and other incentives for clean energy.
Kanin Energy develops facilities that use high temperature waste heat from industrial facilities to produce electricity. The new U.S. subsidies now cover up to half the cost of those projects.
“Not only are we seeing a lot of traction in Houston and Texas and in the United States in general, now there’s all these incentives that have really turbocharged our economics for our projects,” Janice Tran, the company’s CEO, said from her office in Houston. “So it made even more sense to actually kind of double down and grow here.”
It’s corporate welfare on a massive scale and the tax payer foots the bill.
All schools in the Niagara Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) are currently under a hold-and-secure order following an undisclosed threat.
In a tweet posted at 12:13 pm., NCDSB advised parents and guardians that an “unidentified individual contacted the Board with a threat to an unidentified Niagara catholic school.”

The president of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, B.C., was shot dead Sunday night in the temple’s parking lot, according to members of the province’s Sikh community.
Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s death was confirmed by the temple’s vice-president and Sikh community groups, and he is being mourned widely on social media.
… The vice-president of the gurdwara, Amandeep Singh Johal, told CBC News that Nijjar, 45, was an activist with the Sikh independence group Sikhs for Justice.
In 2016, CBC News reported that the government of India was seeking Nijjar’s extradition from Canada on charges related to extremism.

A submersible used to take people to view the wreck of the Titanic has gone missing in the Atlantic Ocean, sparking a search and rescue mission.
The Boston Coastguard told the BBC on Monday that an operation to find it was under way.
It is not clear how many people, if any, were on board at the time it went missing.
Small submersibles occasionally take paying tourists and experts to view the wreck of the Titanic.

Police in northeastern Ontario say a man accused in three Sudbury-area homicides in the past few months has escaped from the local jail.
The Greater Sudbury Police Service shared little information about when 33-year-old Joel Roy was believed to have fled the facility, but issued a release about his escape on Saturday evening. Staff Sgt. Sherry Young says he remains at large as of Sunday night.
