Spina bifida patient says Montreal hospital staff twice offered MAID unprompted

Tracy Polewczuk has spina bifida, a birth defect that can cause weak bones. Two years ago, she was in an accident and broke her leg. The injury never properly healed.

She says she lives in constant pain and relies on daily home care visits from the Pointe-Claire CLSC, but recently, she says the care has been getting worse.

“They don’t bother asking like they know your name, but they don’t address you. It’s just so impersonal, and they don’t care,” Polewczuk said in a recent interview. “You get up when they tell you to. You go to bed when they tell you. You do what they tell you to. That’s it. You have zero control over your life.”

Rodent problem in Ottawa is so bad that one city councillor is proposing using rat birth control

The city of Ottawa is considering using contraceptives to bring down a rat population that has been growing out of control for several years now.

Last month, CTV News reported that Laine Johnson, Deputy Mayor and a councillor in the city’s College Ward, was going to bring forward a motion to council to ask Health Canada to approve a rat birth control product that has been used in several U.S. cities.

In groundbreaking move, Poilievre campaigns among evangelical Christians

Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre went to church last Sunday, not once, not twice, but three times — to three evangelical churches in the Toronto area where he briefly participated in the services, made a short political speech and moved on.

The three churches are all in ridings held by Liberal MPs and the congregants are mostly members of ethnic minority communities, which makes these visits smart politics for a campaigning Conservative leader.

St. John’s Pride names pro-Palestine advocacy group as grand marshals for annual parade

With Pride celebrations in St. John’s about to get underway, the announcement of the grand marshal for this year’s parade has been met with mixed reactions.

On July 21, Palestine Action YYT will lead the annual parade, which will wind its way through downtown St. John’s and end at Bannerman Park for the Pride in the Park event.

OTTAWA—The Conservative party massively outspent the Liberal party on advertising in 2023, raising questions about how the embattled Trudeau Liberals have responded as they slide in the polls and whether the party should shift its strategy in the aftermath of a shocking Toronto byelection loss last week.

Newly released financial statements show the Conservative Party spent $8.5 million to get its message out last year — more than 20 times as much as the governing Liberals, who spent just over $380,000 on advertising.

They treat government as a giant propaganda apparatus.
