Vice President Kamala Harris will finally kick off her efforts to curb the ongoing border crisis next month, meeting on May 7th with Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to discuss his plans to address the “root causes” of migration from Central America.

Following court order, FBI uses classic Friday document dump to release heavily redacted files on the death of Seth Rich

As I wrote elsewhere today, “As a rule, people who fight public disclosure tend to have something to hide.” I should add that when they conceal material even after being forced by a court order to disclose it, there’s even more reason to believe that there is something they are hiding.

The July 2016 murder of DNC Staffer Seth Rich has drawn our attention for years, and been the subject of litigation and efforts to suppress inquiry. But finally, after denying it had anything on the case, the FBI has been compelled via an FOIA lawsuit to disclose its records, and did release some in a Friday document dump, after heavily redacting them.  But what little did make it through, given the concealment via redaction, still raises more questions.

Norwegian City Aims to Ban the Naming of New Streets After Men in a Bid to Reach Equality

Bergen City Council aims to pass a decision that that no new streets, squares or municipal facilities will be named after men until the gender balance has changed significantly.

The way things are now, about 90 percent of the streets are named after men, while only 10 percent of the streets are named after women, which is a problem, according to City Councillor for Culture, Diversity and Gender Equality Katrine Nødtvedt of the Greens.

Dear White Women: Here’s Why It’s Hard to Be Friends With You (Or Black woman blames White women and men for everything…)

How white women’s covert aggression turns them into a Black woman’s nightmare

…White women are socialized to keep the status quo. They maintain the patriarchy by “knowing their place” while at the same time relying on white supremacy to keep some sort of power. Their internalized misogyny and (often subconscious) racism teaches them to use the backs of Black women as stairs they need to use to climb closer to the top of the white-male-made hierarchy. However, white men, especially white, cis, straight men, will always be at the top.

Isn’t it great to blame your fucked up friendship crushing personality on others!

Jonathan Kay: Oh look: Now the ravines are racist, too

I’m getting vaccinated on May 5, a milestone that I regard (at least symbolically) as marking the beginning of my slow return to pre-pandemic life. But even when the lockdowns are over, my daily routines will remain permanently altered.

Prior to the pandemic, I spent almost my entire life indoors. I’d wile away the days staring at a computer, sitting in a car, and working out in a gym. I didn’t even like outdoor restaurant patios because I always had anxiety about whether there’d be an inside table available if it suddenly rained. Plus, allergies.

The Toronto Star had a similar piece some years ago. The woke see everything through an outraged racist lens. Swimming, camping you name it and it’s racist. But I have to admit declaring the preservation of nature a racist white concept set a high bar for sheer lunacy.

“Are Toronto ravines still the domain of white people? And if so, what should we do about that?”

“African American people feel safe in cities and less safe in nature,” says Fearn, who is black. “Preserving wild places is a white concept, going back to Rome.”

The teacher’s actions included:

  • Drinking with pupils
  • Allowing one or more pupils to drink alcohol despite being under the legal age of 18
  • Threatening to “kick the head in” of one pupil and “kill” another
  • Telling one pupil: “I’m not in trouble – you’ll be in trouble”
  • After being aggressive to one pupil, he kissed the boy’s forehead and told him “you’re all right”
  • Taking one or more pupils to a strip club
