Defence Minister David McGuinty said Tuesday that Canada’s decision not to join the U.S. and Israel’s military attacks on Iran was clear “from the beginning” of the war more than two weeks ago, while underscoring that position is not going to change.

During a press event in Brampton, Ont., highlighting Canada’s military aid to Ukraine, McGuinty was asked about the resignation Tuesday of U.S. National Counterterrorism Center director Joe Kent, who said he “cannot in good conscience” back the Trump administration’s war because “Iran posed no imminent threat” to the U.S.

Trump is frustrated with countries that have declined his call to “come and help us” reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He mocked them yesterday: “We would rather not get involved, sir,” Trump said, imitating what he says he hears from world leaders — even though, he points out, Europe, Japan and others depend on oil from the Persian Gulf far more than the United States does.

But Europe, in particular, has no great wish to be drawn into America’s conflict. It’s not those countries’ fault that Iran closed this vital maritime artery, driving up prices for cargo and oil worldwide.

I think it’s fine that NATO states and other “allies” refuse Trump’s request for aid. It is their right.

I also think it’s fine for Trump to exit NATO and let Europe handle Putin.

It will be a great victory for the Carneys, Starmers and Macrons!

For reasons too dull to disclose, I didn’t become an American citizen till age 26, 20 years after arriving in the U.S. from Cuba. I had to drive from Washington to Baltimore with a good friend, Tom, who would testify that I was worthy of the honor. The two of us sat outside the immigration office waiting for Tom to be called in first. I was already a rock-solid conservative by then, more so than my buddy, and we got into a deep political argument. When the immigration officer popped her head out and called for Tom, he looked at me and said, “I don’t know now.” Of course he endorsed me. But that’s how challenging it was back then to become a U.S. citizen. Today, you probably don’t even have to speak English.

More Mexicans were deported annually under Biden than by Trump

MEXICO CITY — The Trump administration has launched an unprecedented immigration enforcement operation across the U.S. to deport people there illegally, but data compiled by a Mexican investigative outlet show that deportations of Mexicans were lower last year than in each of the previous four years.

Under the Biden administration, deportations of Mexicans per year reached nearly 300,000. Since President Trump returned to the White House last January, the U.S. has deported a little over 144,000 Mexicans to their homeland by the end of 2025, according to Mexican government data.

Pentagon tightens control of Stars and Stripes after blasting it as ‘woke’

The Defense Department outlined a sweeping “modernization” effort for Stars and Stripes, the independent military newspaper, according to an internal memo reviewed by The Washington Post, following up on a promise made in January to overhaul the publication and rid it of “woke distractions.”

The memo, sent by Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen A. Feinberg on March 9, says the newspaper “must modernize to remain relevant and viable” in the digital age. It also introduces an “interim policy” governing the newspaper effective immediately that Feinberg says replaces previous Pentagon instructions. That policy restricts the use of wire services and says that content in the paper, known as Stripes, must be consistent with “good order and discipline,” a phrase used in military justice.
