How realistic is another American civil war?

It’s a notion which 10 years ago would have been unthinkable: that America might be on the brink of a second civil war. Yet, as the 2024 election approaches, high-profile Republicans are discussing a “national divorce”, leading academics are examining the possibility, and Hollywood is cashing in. The trailer for Alex  Garland’s upcoming film Civil War has recently been released and it paints a truly dystopian picture, from the Lincoln Memorial shrouded in black smoke to the federal government conducting air strikes on its own citizens. But is it realistic? Were a second civil war to erupt in 2024, would it really play out in such a blockbuster fashion?

The Biden Administration, Palestinians and Inconvenient Truths

As US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan was in the Middle East last week trying to restrain Israel in its war against the Iran-backed Hamas terrorist group and to “revamp” the Palestinian Authority (PA), a public opinion poll again illustrated how the Biden administration continues to intentionally ignore the reality of the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The results of the poll also showed that, unlike the Biden administration, most Palestinians do not trust the PA and prefer Hamas’s terrorism to a peaceful settlement with Israel.

Sullivan was reportedly in the Middle East for two reasons: to pressure Israel to scale down its military operations against Hamas, and to discuss the possibility of having the Palestinian Authority govern the Gaza Strip the day after the current war ends.

Hate preacher Abu Hamza has urged US courts to grant his freedom so he can return to the UK, eight years after he was extradited on terrorism charges.

The hook-handed 65-year-old has applied to end his life sentence in the US immediately so he can make his return.

Hamza wishes to be sent back on compassionate grounds after submitting hundreds of pages of evidence to support his application.

The Return of American Excellence

The 20th century was without a doubt the American century.

The former colonies left the 19th century as a relatively isolated nation, still growing, still searching for its place in a world shaped by centuries of European greatness. After much agony, the United States decided to enter the world stage by throwing its manpower and sizable industrial might into World War I.

Even though the war militarily ended in a draw, historians have written it as a victory for the American side. Right or wrong, the punishment of Germany, penned into ominously historic ink in a train car in Versailles, reinforced the image of American victory.

Deaths put spotlight on growing US homeless population

A series of deadly attacks on unhoused people in the US has coincided with a spike in American homelessness.

US officials released a report on Friday showing that homeless numbers have risen about 12% since 2022.

The new survey comes after the recent arrest of a suspected serial killer in Los Angeles who targeted the homeless.

Separately, a California man attended court on Friday for manslaughter after allegedly filming himself shooting a sleeping homeless man.
