Canadian refugee advocates, federal government departments and immigration lawyers are bracing for a potential influx of asylum claimants following U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive orders this week.
But as they prepare, they all say they have no idea what exactly to expect.

Rights groups warn Trump executive order would restore Muslim ‘travel ban’
WASHINGTON, Jan 22 (Reuters) – U.S. civil rights groups are warning that an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Monday lays the groundwork for reinstatement of a ban on travelers from predominantly Muslim or Arab countries.
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) said the new order relied on the same statutory authority used to justify Trump’s 2017 travel ban and offered even “wider latitude to use ideological exclusion to deny visa requests and remove individuals” who had already entered the country. It unveiled a new 24-hour hotline (844-232-9955) to help those affected.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers hit the ground running this week, arresting multiple violent offenders in sanctuary cities, including a hostile Haitian gang member with a lengthy rap sheet who said he “ain’t going back to Haiti” and raged “F–k Trump, Biden forever!”
ICE officers in Boston made eight noteworthy arrests, including multiple MS-13 gang members, murder and rape suspects and the Haitian gang member, with 18 recent convictions, according to Fox News, who rode along with ICE for the arrests.

One of U.S. President Donald Trump’s freshly signed executive orders puts the Liberal government’s digital services tax into the sights of America’s Commerce, Treasury and Trade departments, threatening to further irritate the trade relationship between the two countries.
The America First Trade Policy, signed into force by Trump Monday evening, seeks to ensure America’s trading relationships bring maximum benefit to “American workers, manufacturers, farmers, ranchers, entrepreneurs and businesses.”
It directs his secretaries of the Treasury and Commerce departments as well as the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to investigate whether foreign countries are subjecting U.S. “citizens or corporations to discriminatory or extraterritorial taxes.”
While it’s true pardoned members of Joe Biden’s crime family can be interviewed by the FBI, and lying to an agent is a crime, they don’t have to speak with federal agents. It’s equally true they can be subpoenaed by Congress and may be prosecuted for perjury, but I’m quite sure that like James Comey, Christopher Wray and a variety of other swamp dwellers, they’ll suddenly develop very bad memories. It’s equally likely Former General Mark Milley, also pardoned by Biden’s handlers, will suffer memory loss.
Border czar Tom Homan explained during an interview on CNN that there will be “collateral arrests” of illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities—a statement that stunned host Dana Bash.
“There’s going to be more collateral arrests in sanctuary cities because they forced us to go into the community and find the guy we’re looking for,” Homan said.
