Day began with hope for Tories but ended with Sadiq Khan back as mayor

It was a day that began with some hope – or was it wishful thinking – that Sadiq Khan might be ousted in London by his Tory rival, heralding a revival in fortunes for party and government.

But it ended with Mr Khan cruising to a comfortable victory and an unprecedented third term in City Hall.

Reality, cold and unflinching, began to dawn the moment results started to come in.

Inside the notorious prison where British jihadists are held

Islamic State fighters are pushed by armed guards through a labyrinth of windowless corridors. They trip over their tied ankles and tilt their heads to peek under their blindfolds, but see only the same dark hallway, with its peeling walls and broken tiles.

This is the notorious Hasakah prison complex in northeast Syria, now labelled “the world’s worst prison”. For years the media has been blocked from getting inside the facility and meeting its inmates, but The Times has been granted exclusive access.

Don’t Become Sweden – Admitting Gazan “refugees” would be catastrophically stupid

There must be worse ideas than admitting refugees from Gaza into the U.S., but none immediately come to mind.

According to CBS News, one proposal the Biden administration is considering is “using the decades-old United States Refugee Admissions Program to welcome Palestinians with U.S. ties who have managed to escape Gaza and enter neighboring Egypt.” Another possibility is “getting additional Palestinians out of Gaza and processing them as refugees if they have American relatives.”

Somali Imam Arrested in Sweden on Terrorism Charges

The 60-year-old leader of a mosque in Tyresö, Sweden, has been arrested on suspicion of direct participation in a terrorism organization. The Somali imam was heading a mosque on a volunteer basis, teaching children and youth on the premises of a Muslim cultural association.

The imam has been leading the mosque at least since the early 2000s, and for a time functioned as the chairman of the cultural association. His arrest was the result of an investigation following a raid by Swedish security services SÄPO in March, where four men in their 20s were detained.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday afternoon, Mr Trump took aim at protesters who have staged two weeks of demonstrations on campuses across the US.

NRCC drops off ‘F*** Hamas’ T-shirt at Tlaib’s office and sparks outrage

A spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee said it sparked outrage at Rep. Rashida Tlaib‘s (D-MI) congressional office when they dropped off a “F*** Hamas” T-shirt on Wednesday morning ahead of the vote on the bipartisan Antisemitism Awareness Act, a bill that supporters say help combat antisemitism on college campuses.

​​Place Auguste Baron in the north-east of the French capital has seen two women attacked and threatened with rape in the past two days, according to French media. The suspects in each case are said to have been crack addicts.

Last night, a woman who was walking home in the neighbourhood was pounced on by a man who she said had been tailing her for 500 yards, Le Parisien reports.

Jews have eyes. And they see that the antisemitism in the protests over Gaza is no aberration

There is a point at which the gaslighting becomes genuinely insulting. When meek attempts to blame a rogue few for hateful or antisemitic speech, or the repeated insistence that such displays of bigotry have “no place in Canada,” are so disconnected from reality that they become offensive and belittling.

People can see with their own eyes that this sort of bigotry clearly has a place here. And they can hear with their own ears as choruses of people – not just one or two outliers – sing about sending Jews “back to Europe.” It happened during pro-Palestinian protests in Ottawa on April 15, in Toronto on March 8 and April 13, and just days ago, in Montreal, at the encampment set up at McGill University.

It is a litany of enrichment made possible by the Liberal and Conservative parties.
