Israeli Security Cabinet Approves Full Military Takeover of Gaza
Israeli leaders early on Friday approved a plan for the gradual military takeover of all of Gaza, a pivotal and risky decision that went against the recommendations of the Israeli military and promised to take the nearly two-year war into uncharted terrain.
After 10 hours of deliberations, a majority of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet backed his proposal to prepare to conquer the core of Gaza City, according to a pre-dawn statement from his office,
At a later stage, the military is expected to push into central areas of the enclave where Hamas is believed to be holding Israeli hostages and where the military has largely refrained from operating before.
Michael Higgins: The United Church’s abhorrent excuses for October 7
It is loathsome when anyone describes the butchery that happened in Israel on October 7 as an act of “resistance,” but it is particularly troubling when it comes from people within the United Church of Canada.
Such hateful rhetoric can be found in a proposal that will be considered by the church’s general council meeting, which starts Thursday. It begins by stating that “the Gaza genocide is the most recent and most severe expression of the colonialist oppression of the state of Israel upon the Palestinian people.”
That is one sick church.
The secret system Hamas uses to pay government salaries
After nearly two years of war, Hamas’s military capability is severely weakened and its political leadership under intense pressure.
Yet, throughout the war Hamas has managed to continue to use a secret cash-based payment system to pay 30,000 civil servants’ salaries totalling $7m (£5.3m).
The BBC has spoken to three civil servants who have confirmed they have received nearly $300 each within the last week.

Israel’s security cabinet is meeting on Thursday to decide on whether to order a complete military takeover of the Gaza Strip – a move the UN says would risk “catastrophic consequences”.
Israeli media say Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sees this as the only way to destroy Hamas and free hostages still held by the group following the breakdown of ceasefire talks.
Reports, though, say the head of the military and some ministers disagree, amid warnings such a move could be disastrous for the hostages and Palestinian civilians.

Richard Robertson: Carney’s Palestine recognition a foreign policy blunder
Last week, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada intends to recognize a Palestinian state in September. This would be a dangerous, highly premature decision — and a foreign policy blunder that could embarrass Canada while compounding the crisis in the Middle East instead of bringing Israelis and Palestinians anywhere closer to a lasting peace.
If it means winning the Muslim-Left vote bloc then Carney is happy.
Canada’s reputation was destroyed under Trudeau’s reign.
There are no eggs left to break so Carney may as well go along to get along with whoever he might strike a deal with.
How Hamas Sees the West’s Recognition of ‘Palestine’
The recent announcements by France, Britain, Canada and other countries that they intend to recognize a Palestinian state have emboldened the Iran-backed Palestinian terror group Hamas. Its members, on October 7, 2023, were behind the worst crime committed against Jews since the Holocaust. The massacre resulted in the murder of more than 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals and the wounding of thousands. In addition, another 251 Israelis and foreign nationals were kidnapped to the Gaza Strip, where 50 hostages – 30 believed dead and 20 believed alive – are still held captive.

Report: Anti-Israel Photographer Stages Photographs of Hunger in Gaza
A photographer whose work is routinely picked up by international agencies reportedly stages photographs of hunger in Gaza, emphasizing women and children and avoiding showing Palestinians receiving food, German Bild says.
Today it was revealed that this TIME photo from Gaza was completely staged — a total fake.
But they published it anyway.

Zyklon B heiress to participate in next Gaza flotilla
A heiress from the German industrial dynasty that profited from producing Zyklon B, the gas used in Nazi death camps, will participate in the next pro-Palestinian flotilla to Gaza, activist groups announced last week.
Marlene Engelhorn explained in an Instagram post, “I decided to join the flotilla because I wanted to support the effort to end this genocide.”
Decision to ban Jewish groups from Montreal’s pride parade overturned

Netanyahu will win the war in Gaza, but he’s lost it in London, Ottawa, and Washington
There were always two fronts to the war in Gaza. The first and obvious was the ground war: the mission to destroy Hamas and retrieve the hostages kidnapped on Oct. 7. The IDF has simultaneously carried out operations to decapitate Israel’s other enemies: an enormously sophisticated pager attack in Lebanon where devices carried by Hezbollah’s top brass were suddenly detonated, and a 12-day attack on Iran that took out the regime’s top military officials, its nuclear scientists, and, with assistance from the U.S., its nuclear infrastructure.
Netanyahu takes the heat while winning the war. Later he’s replaced by a more palatable pol. Seems a good plan.
As a Jewish Canadian, I want my community to speak out about the horrors in Gaza
In the winter of 1975, I went to work on a kibbutz.
I was 17 years old. The work in the fish ponds was not glamorous: I stood for hours in a large, stinky pool of muddy water hauling spiny St. Peter’s fish out into a tank for export. But the trip was an ideological inspiration. Here was Jewish community. Here were whole neighbourhoods celebrating my holidays. The communal kibbutz lifestyle united in the building of something new, something hopeful.

No doubt children suffer but I have grave doubts about the alleged food shortages that come from a people who celebrate rape, murder and the ‘martyrdom’ of their own children.

Why did Mark Carney choose this moment to recognize Palestine as a state?
The announcement by Prime Minister Mark Carney Wednesday to recognize Palestine as a state took many Canadians by surprise. Up until recently, Canada and other western states seemed committed to the view that the recognition of Palestine would come at the end of a lengthy peace negotiation between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Two states for two peoples has been a central pillar of Canadian and other western countries’ Middle East policies for decades. Indeed, that is precisely what was envisioned at the time the United Nations voted Israel into existence in 1947. Unfortunately, Israel’s Arab neighbours rejected partition, attacked Israel and the rest is some very complicated, bloody history.
