Chief Peter Sloly told the police services board Wednesday that he is working with the RCMP and intelligence bodies to prepare for the protests against a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for cross-border truckers — as well as the counterprotests expected against the demonstrators.

The German government is considering a ban on encrypted messaging app Telegram after it was repeatedly used as a channel for spreading anti-vaccine conspiracy theories and even death threats.
The app has also played a key role in mobilising turnout at some of the most violent protests in opposition to the German government’s Covid-19 policies since the start of the pandemic.
Some Canadians are facing sporadic food shortages throughout the country — and while these shortages may not be felt by everyone, that does not make them any less real to those who must contend with empty shelves. It is disappointing, then, that many progressive commentators have spent the past few days denying that these shortages exist in an ill-advised attempt to score partisan points.
Ont. reports 92 net new deaths linked to COVID-19 today
Ontario has added more than 90 net new deaths to its overall COVID-19 death toll today as the number of patients in hospital with the virus dips to just over 4,000.
Provincial health officials confirmed another 92 virus-related deaths today, fatalities that occurred within the past month. This appears to be the highest number of deaths reported by the province on a single day since the start of the pandemic. On Jan. 15, 2021, 100 deaths were confirmed but that total included more than 40 historical deaths that hadn’t been included in previous tallies.
608 people are in ICU with #COVID19. 83% of patients admitted to the ICU were admitted for COVID-19 and 17% were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for COVID-19.
There are 5,368 new cases of COVID-19.

As a growing group of truckers and supporters make their way to Ottawa in a protest against vaccine mandates, experts say the rhetoric online concerning the convoy is getting increasingly worrisome.
The group of truckers and concerned citizens began a cross-country trip to Ottawa over the weekend, in protest of vaccine mandates in the country. The groups expect to arrive in Ottawa this Saturday.

With signs of the COVID-19 Omicron wave having peaked in parts of the world, including Canada, scientists are keeping a close eye on a subvariant that is rapidly spreading in some countries.
The BA.2 sub-lineage of Omicron, which was first detected in November last year, was designated as a variant under investigation by the U.K. Health Security Agency (UKHSA) on Friday.
As RedState reported previously, a judge in New York struck down the state’s mask mandate, put in place by interim Gov.
