U.S. President Donald Trump’s 10 per cent tariff on Canadian energy should be a cause for celebration in Ottawa. After all, Trump is only finishing the job the Trudeau government started: systematically crippling the energy sector in pursuit of their net-zero dream.
It’s hard to imagine Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault or his Liberal predecessors, Catherine McKenna and Jonathan Wilkinson, shedding a tear over this development. These are the same people who have spent years declaring oil and gas the great evil of our time. Now, the tariffs are here to speed up the decline of an industry they have worked tirelessly to strangle with regulations.
Far from the political spotlight and prying eyes, the process has already begun.
When the next Liberal leader is announced on March 9, it will mark the end of the leadership campaign triggered by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to resign.
However, experts say the process to transition to the next prime minister begins well before that day. Before any new Liberal leader decides to plunge Canada into an early federal election, there are legal and technical steps they must first take.

Negative feelings about Pierre Poilievre pushing some voters toward Liberals, poll suggests
OTTAWA — Worsening feelings for Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre are helping push Canadian voters towards the federal Liberal party, a new poll suggests.
In an online survey published Wednesday, Pollara Strategic Insights found that 34 per cent of respondents were more open to voting for the governing Liberals by mid-February than at the end of last year.

After the U.S. president slapped all Canadian and Mexican products with a 25 per cent import duty and a 10 per cent levy on oil and gas, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau channelled this country’s sense of dismay, betrayal and fury. He authorized counter-tariffs to fight back in an “unjustified” trade war launched by Trump whom he said is using border concerns as a pretext to collapse this country’s economy and “annex us.”
If after 10 years of ruinous Trudeau governance you regard the absolute worst PM ever as a patriot then you belong in the loony bin.

It may surprise and even enrage many people to know there are Canadians out there who wouldn’t mind this country becoming the 51st state of the U.S.
It’s a small number, to be sure: About 10 per cent of Canadians say they would support Canada joining the U.S., according to a poll by the Angus Reid Institute, completed in January.

He began his campaign to become the leader of the Liberal Party, stating he was an “outsider.” This was a stretch. In fact, he is the consummate insider. He is the insider sitting in the backroom whom the face of the party listens to for counsel, even when the members of the party have spoken in opposition, as in the case of PM Trudeau.

British nuclear weapons can protect Canada against Trump, says Chrystia Freeland
Canada should seek closer ties with Britain because its nuclear weapons can help protect the country against Donald Trump, a female politician running to replace Justin Trudeau has said.
Chrystia Freeland, the former deputy prime minister under Justin Trudeau, said that Mr Trump is “clearly threatening our sovereignty” with his campaign to absorb Canada as the 51st state of America.
In order to “guarantee our security”, Ms Freeland said she would build closer security partnerships with European Nato allies and “I would be sure that France and Britain were there, who possess nuclear weapons”.
In the fact-free world of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberals, their screw-ups are always someone else’s fault.
They have been in charge of the federal government during every single day of Donald Trump’s two terms as president, from Jan. 20, 2017, to Jan. 20, 2021, and now from Jan. 20, 2025, to the present.
That means they wear the current dismal state of Canada-U.S. relations and the start of an economically devastating tariff war with the U.S. on Tuesday.
