OTTAWA — The Trump administration is hindering work at the United Nations on advancing equality, says Canada’s UN Ambassador David Lametti.

“There has been a general obstructionist policy, (a) cantankerous policy with respect to women’s rights, a woman’s right to choose, with respect to LGBTQ+ rights (and) gender equality,” Lametti told The Canadian Press when asked to describe American actions at the UN.

“There’s a pushback any time you see the word ‘climate change’ anywhere, or you see ‘gender equality’ anywhere,” he added.

The Libs will stop at nothing to sabotage CUSMA.

U.S. flags concerns over Canada’s ties to China as it blocks CUSMA renewal

The United States’ top trade official is pointing to Canada’s deepening economic ties with China as one of the reasons Washington is refusing to renew the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement on free trade (CUSMA) in its current form.

Speaking to Global News on Thursday, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the White House is concerned Beijing could use Canada as a back door into the American market.

My suspicion is the Americans are not much concerned with economic matters but worry more at the ChiCom compromised security risk Canada is becoming.

Federal memo considers legal action against social media posting false info

A 35-page memo to Federal Industry Minister Mélanie Joly contemplates “legal action” against Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media it suspects of spreading “false and misleading information.”

However, the memo, obtained under Access To Information, doesn’t explain what action federal lawyers would take, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

Mark Carney has only himself to blame, for the controversy that erupted last week when he announced a half-baked plan to buy up vacant condominiums.

But the blowback, as strong as any he’s faced since becoming prime minister, may ultimately prove a blessing in disguise both for him and for the country.

That is, if it causes him to course correct at all on two traits that threaten to eventually get his government in a lot more trouble: overconfidence in his own communication skills, and a cozy relationship with business that could increasingly be seen as out of touch.

The Liberals are finally getting things right on national defence under Carney

For all the ills former prime minister Justin Trudeau left his successor to face, the defence file has been a surprising bright spot.

What makes this all the more remarkable is the fact that just 30 months ago, the then-head of the Royal Canadian Navy took to YouTube to declare that his team and equipment were in a “critical state.” At any other moment in the last 50 years, Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee’s political masters would have punished him for daring to share his unvarnished message.

Not sure I share the author’s premise. Carney is great at pronouncements but when it comes to delivery not so much.

The data tell a mixed story: More Canadians seem to be heading to the U.S. in recent years, even as long-term permanent migration has declined. Nearly 20,000 Canadians emigrated to the U.S. permanently in 2022, a 65 per cent increase from the year before, according to Statistics Canada. But the average number of native-born Canadian-born people granted permanent U.S. residence fell from 15,600 in the late 2000s to nearly 11,000 in the late 2010s.

Ambassador says Carney’s Davos speech is being put into practice at UN

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Mark Carney’s vision of middle powers working with less traditional partners outside the superpower club is already taking shape at the United Nations, says Canada’s ambassador.

“We have set up a number of different kinds of relationships that work for specific issues,” said David Lametti, Canada’s ambassador to the UN. “And that’s precisely the manner in which I think Prime Minister Carney has envisaged this, for areas outside of the UN.”

The UN is a cesspit, small wonder they’d like Carney’s con but then Lametti is such a sycophant he probably made the whole thing up.

B.C. developers say they don’t want government buyout for empty condos

Real estate developers are pushing back against claims that a new federal-provincial program to buy up empty condos is something the industry asked for, with the Urban Development Institute and others saying that it isn’t a bailout and won’t help their sector.

North America is the richest region of the world when it comes to personal wealth, according to a new report from Swiss bank UBS, but in terms of countries Canada ranks 13th.

With an average personal wealth of US$660,000 per adult in 2025, North America is followed by Australia and New Zealand, which together had an average wealth of US$590,000. Western Europe was ranked third, with an average wealth of US$330,000 per person.

… Canada came in 13th place in the country rankings with an average wealth of US$399,886 per adult.
