The news lately has been so wonderful—Iran gelded, peace deals breaking out all over, the Supreme Court issuing excellent rulings, etc.—that it’s hard to say that this or that story is my favorite. But today, my favorite is absolutely the fact that an illegal alien detention center, nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz,” is opening in Florida. The new center can hold as many as 5,000 people, but the best part is the location: It’s in the middle of the Everglades, where Florida’s wildlife will provide the bulk of the security. The story works at so many levels, it’s almost hard to grasp it all

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ruled Friday that nationwide injunctions issued by lower court judges “likely exceed” the judicial branch’s constitutional authority — handing the Trump administration a big win in the high court’s most closely-watched case this term.

“[F]ederal courts do not exercise general oversight of the Executive Branch; they resolve cases and controversies consistent with the authority Congress has given them,” conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett wrote for the court’s conservative majority.

At base, a “fair” wage is one that will attract people to do what you need them to do.

It isn’t $20, $30, $40, or $1, $3, or $10 an hour. It is the wage at which people think they are better off taking than not. There is no non-artificial minimum wage, and no absolute limit to the size of the wage either. The way wages should be set is through market mechanisms.

Robotaxis have become a potent symbol of the rise of artificial intelligence. To techno-optimists, robotaxis are an unalloyed good, a harbinger of a more productive and prosperous future. To anti-capitalists, they represent the supposed hubris of Silicon Valley technologists, who are said to be indifferent to the labor-displacing impact of automation. Less discussed is what they might mean for the politics of immigration.

During my law enforcement career, I never saw what one might reasonably describe as an obvious act of courage on the part of any attorney, prosecutor, or public defender. Their lives and jobs were insulated from the gritty reality of day-to-day police work. It was a reality they experienced from the comfort of office chairs and argued in climate-controlled, guarded courtrooms. Such was not the case for US Attorney John A Sarcone III of the Northern District of New York on June 17, 2025 in Albany, NY.

President Donald Trump has set a goal of deporting one million illegal immigrants a year during his second term in office, and according to new estimates based on Census Bureau data, it appears at least that many may have already left the country this year.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement does not normally issue its annual “Enforcement and Removal Operations Report” until December, so we will not have hard numbers for months, but all indications from other indirect data point to the conclusion that Trump has already made significant progress undoing President Joe Biden’s mass illegal migration.

Any restriction was forbidden

The Biden-era explosion in illegal immigration was a direct consequence of Peak Woke: Democrats, overly responsive to fringe activists, advocated for loosening immigration restrictions to avoid cancel-culture mobs and countersignal Donald Trump. Now, amid Trump’s historic crackdown, it feels like the fever is broken. Weeks before Kamala Harris’s loss, a massive Economist survey of data found censorship attempts were declining and “woke” language had dropped in print and broadcast media. In tandem, the politics of immigration shifted sharply to the Right.

It just goes to show that the Biden-era policies dogging the country now were shaped by a sort of temporary insanity, where even moderate Democrats abandoned long-held beliefs to avoid charges of bigotry or associations with Trumpism.
