Bodies missing after Mexican drug cartel massacre caught on video

Mexicans have been left wondering what happened to about a dozen men who disappeared after they were seen lined up against a wall by drug cartel gunmen.

In a video apparently filmed by a resident of the town San José de Gracia in the western state of Michoacán and posted on social media, bursts of gunfire broke out and smoke covered the scene.

The camera cuts away, and most observers assumed all the men – perhaps as many as 17 – died.

Not to make light of the Ukraine but more are killed daily in Sunny Mexico.

Russia Warns: No US Military Bases in Ex-Soviet Countries

The United States and its European allies must not build any bases in the former Soviet Union or use those countries for military purposes, warned Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday.

Lavrov, quoted by Russian state-run news agencies RIA and TASS, said the Kremlin found it unacceptable that some European nations are hosting U.S. nuclear weapons and again said Russia is taking measures to stop Ukraine from obtaining similar weapons. He did not provide evidence for the claim.

“It is high time to bring American nuclear weapons home, and to completely eliminate the infrastructure associated with them in Europe,” he said at a U.N. video conference on Tuesday.

In Leaks About Failed Russian Diplomacy, Biden Exposed Dangerous Weakness On China

The Biden administration’s weakness and incompetence were on full display in a New York Times article last week recounting the White House’s repeated—and failed— attempts to urge China to help avert war in Ukraine. The purpose of the article was to allow senior administration officials to take their duplicitous Chinese counterparts to task, but the account reveals above all that White House officials are out of their depth in dealing with China.

Melanie Joly inexplicably headed to Poland-Ukraine border on Tuesday

High level meetings.

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly is headed to the Poland-Ukraine border on Tuesday to ensure that Canada’s latest supply of military aid flows into the war-ravaged country.

Her visit comes as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday that Canada was sending anti-tank weapons and upgraded ammunition to Ukraine, which amounted to a significant enhancement in lethal military aid.

I doubt the Poles want her. Maybe she wants to meet Steven Seagal.

Ontario confirms 18 more COVID-19 deaths; ICU occupancy continues to decline

Ontario confirmed 1,176 new coronavirus cases today, but health officials warn that could be an underestimate due to testing restrictions.

Among the latest cases, 858 are fully vaccinated, 165 are unvaccinated, 27 are partially vaccinated and 126 have an unknown vaccination status.

All remaining capacity limits, COVID-19 vaccine passport system end in Ontario today

Ontario is ending most of its major COVID-19 public health measures today, though Premier Doug Ford has said mask mandates will likely be in place for at least a couple more weeks.

COVID-19 hospitalizations and test positivity rates have fallen sharply from the January peak of the Omicron wave, though wastewater data suggests cases may be starting to rise again.

PS. I will continue this daily posting until the Mask Mandate is lifted hopefully signifying the end of the ChiCom Flu pandemic

Ukraine conflict: Dread in Kyiv as huge Russian convoy advances

The first day of March swept in with an icy blast of wind and snow; the sixth day of Russia’s invasion unfolds with a gnawing sense of foreboding. Satellite images convey, with searing clarity, the pace of Russia’s progress towards Kyiv. A serpentine armoured convoy, some 65km (40 miles) long, bristling with tanks and troops, slowly snakes forward. It’s only 27km away.

Russia strikes Kharkiv government HQ as more forces join column outside Kyiv

Russian forces have bombarded the government headquarters in Ukraine’s second biggest city, killing at least 11 civilians, officials have said, as a huge armoured column rolling towards the capital, Kyiv, raised fears of more devastating Russian tactics.

Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba on Tuesday tweeted video of the explosion in Kharkiv’s Freedom Square, calling it a “barbaric Russian missile strike” and accusing the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, of “murdering innocent civilians”.

What are thermobaric weapons and how do they work?

Fears have risen over the use of thermobaric weapons by Russia after the Ukrainian ambassador to the US said a vacuum bomb – another term for the weapon – had been used during the invasion.

War & Culture War

An op-ed contributor to the NYTimes, Emily Tamkin, writes about “How The American Right Stopped Worrying And Learned To Love Russia.” She mentions me in her piece:

Many of the admirers of the world’s strongmen on the American right appear to believe that the countries each of these men lead are beacons of whiteness, Christianity and conservative values. On Wednesday, conservative commentator Rod Dreher wrote, “I adamantly oppose risking the lives of boys from Louisiana and Alabama to make the Donbass safe for genderqueers and migrants.”
