‘Don’t let Isis Beatle who exploited our daughter walk free’

The family of a student acquitted of smuggling almost £16,000 in her underwear to a suspected member of the Isis “Beatles” hostage-taking gang have accused him of ruining her life as police prepare for his return to the UK within days.

Aine Davis was due to be released yesterday from a maximum security prison in Turkey after serving a 7½-year sentence for being a member of Isis. He will be deported as early as this week.

Labelled the “Fourth Beatle”, he will automatically be arrested and questioned by counterterrorism officers on his arrival.

Thomas Jefferson’s Home Has Been Taken Over by Leftist America-Haters

“Who controls the past controls the future,” writes George Orwell in 1984. “Who controls the present controls the past.” Were he with us today, Orwell would be getting tired of being right all the time, but he has just been proven right again: Thomas Jefferson’s famed mansion Monticello has been turned into a fount of woke propaganda that denigrates Jefferson and treats unsuspecting visitors to an over-the-top orgy of victimhood and white guilt regarding slavery. The Left hates America and wants very much for you to hate it, too.

The culture war over the Middle Ages

The left thinks it was too white while the Catholic New Right sees much to admire

There is a war afoot, here in late civilization, over the meaning and legacy of the Middle Ages. Two distinct fronts have emerged from either side of our political spectrum. On the left, in the academy, medievalism is being diversified out of existence, its defining Western characteristics relegating it to a smaller place in a global mosaic. On the right, a certain breed of new conservative is reclaiming the Middle Ages as a keystone period in which order and reason ruled, instead of the swivel-headed “scientism” of pure observation brought on by the Enlightenment.

Chinese Zero Covid was always a lie

Western media upheld the CCP’s fabricated success

For the past two years, the Western media has taken that pernicious little term, “Zero Covid”, at face value. While the rest of the world saw rocketing caseloads and death rates, during a key 18-month period China reported two (yes, two) deaths. In a country of 1.4 billion people, and with a disease that scientists find uncannily adapted to infect humans, this was not just obviously false; it was absurd.

The End of Private Car Ownership

You will drive nothing and you will be happy.

The term “pedestrian” has a derogatory meaning because peasants walked while nobles were “equestrians” and rode horses. The industrial revolution eliminated this class difference, as it did so many others, by making car ownership available to the masses until eventually Herbert Hoover was able to boast that “Republican prosperity has reduced and increased earning capacity” to “put the proverbial ‘chicken in every pot’ and a car in every backyard to boot.”

Democrats have spent two generations trying to get those cars out of every backyard.

Our New Antoinettes

These humanitarian rich feel just terrible about the sins of America, but not terrible enough to sacrifice any element of their privileged lifestyles—the just deserts they feel for being so righteous.

Marie Antoinette, the beheaded wife of the beheaded French Bourbon King Charles Louis XVI, did not really say “Let them cake.”

But in the short time that the French Revolution became utterly unhinged, toxic, and nihilistic, she became nonetheless iconic as an out-of-touch elite who had lived in a make-believe world at Versailles, without a clue (or care?) about the ordeal of the masses.

Europe faces huge surge in migration from Middle East and Africa due to food crisis created by war in Ukraine, EU warns

Europe is facing a huge migration wave from the Middle East and Africa because of the food crisis aggravated by the war in Ukraine, the EU has warned.

Ukraine is one of the biggest grain exporters in the world but production and dispatch have been severely affected by Putin’s barbaric invasion.

Around 20million tonnes of grain from last year’s harvest are blocked in Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea.

Sri Lanka’s Collapse Points to Global Gloom

… Back in March, as the world was still watching the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Reuters filed an ominous dispatch from Sri Lanka about the consequences of its government’s attempt to ban the use of artificial fertilizers:

“I cannot recall any time in the past when we had to struggle so much to get a decent harvest,” said [W. M.] Seneviratne, a lean 65-year-old with a shock of silver hair, who has been farming since he was a child.

“Last year, we got 60 bags from these two acres. But this time it was just 10,” he added.

Ontario woman enduring effects of long COVID begins process for medically assisted death

Contracting COVID-19 radically changed Tracey Thompson’s life. It’s been more than two years since the initial infection, but her symptoms still dictate her days, leaving her with heavy-weighted fatigue, robbing her of energy and her ability to work.

Thompson, a Toronto resident in her 50s, says the enduring illness and lack of substantive financial support has led her to begin the process of applying for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), a procedure that first became legal in Canada in 2016.

“[MAiD] is exclusively a financial consideration,” she told CTV News Toronto.

Pierre Poilievre returns to his old university club, where 22 years ago he feuded with Patrick Brown

Clad in cowboy hats and plaid, dozens of young conservatives gathered at an Irish pub in Calgary early Sunday afternoon, sipping water and draught beer while waiting for Conservative leadership hopeful Pierre Poilievre to arrive.

Poilievre’s political roots trace back to this club — the University of Calgary’s conservative club. And much of his points of view (and even one current feud) echo back those 22 years.

“I don’t think you can understand Pierre Poilievre without understanding his background,” said Mount Royal University political scientist Duane Bratt. “You have to look at growing up in Calgary, going to the University of Calgary, taking political science in the time period that he did.”
