Donald Trump says Canadians ‘need us to survive’ after Mark Carney says trade talks will ‘intensify’

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney says he has agreed to “intensify” trade negotiations with the U.S. after President Donald Trump threatened punishing new tariffs on Canada.

Carney said he spoke with Trump on Tuesday morning following Monday’s announcement that the United States plans to impose 50 per cent tariffs on a wide swath of Canadian goods in 30 days.

Propaganda Press Hides Anti-ICE Motive Behind Latest Act Of Left-Wing Violence

In the latest example of anti-ICE violent extremism, a 43-year-old leftist rioter allegedly set a fire outside a federal building in Manhattan that houses offices for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and federal immigration courts. The suspect reportedly also set off fireworks in the Monday attack and had multiple pellet guns, a machete, three knives, and two axes. But you wouldn’t necessarily know that this violent attack was motivated by anti-ICE sentiment if you happened to skim some of the headlines from the propaganda press.

Gatineau relocates Samuel de Champlain monument as other cities remove statues of the explorer

A city in Quebec has reinstalled its monument to Samuel de Champlain in a new location, almost a decade after it was originally taken down for maintenance.

The monument to the French explorer was relocated to the parc de la Francophonie, in Gatineau, Que., on Thursday. Previously, the statue was installed at the intersection of promenade du Portage and rue Laval until 2016, when it was removed during construction work in downtown Gatineau.

Toronto’s middle class is packing up and moving out at such a rapid pace that the city’s population is dropping. Montreal and Vancouver are also in the midst of a similar outmigration.

It’s not only bad news for those cities; it also harms the country as a whole by slowing economic growth, straining our health care system, and increasing political polarization.

This migration out of cities is not just a Toronto story. While the City of Toronto saw 40,000 more people move out to other parts of the country last year than moved in from elsewhere in Canada, Peel Region lost even more, at 45,000.

But Toronto has so much to offer!

Playing defence didn’t protect Canada from Trump’s latest tariffs. It’s time to move into the offensive zone

Donald Trump’s latest tariff tantrum, delivered the day after the World Cup finals, was a sucker punch to Prime Minister Mark Carney, who was seated with the President during the match.

The new measures, which were announced Monday, impose 50-per-cent duties on roughly US$20-billion worth of Canadian goods, from milk and cream to alcohol, hockey equipment and electrical machinery, and are set to take effect on Aug. 19. The administration cast them as retaliation for what it calls Canada’s unfair treatment of American dairy, alcohol and automakers. Tellingly, the list spares energy, potash and critical minerals – all things the U.S. urgently needs from us right now, along with goods already captured by the separate steel and auto tariffs.
