If Ford wants to help Canada stand up to Trump, there’s only one thing for him to do

It’s time for Doug Ford to focus on being the premier of Ontario. He’ll be sad to hang up the Captain Canada cape, but the best thing he can do to help this country stand up to U.S. President Donald Trump is to make sure our most populous province is running at peak efficiency. Right now, it isn’t.

Let’s get something out of the way right off the top: I don’t blame Ford for the breakdown in trade relations between Canada and the United States. The blame for that lies entirely with Trump. He blew up the last deal, and he could ram a new one through if he wanted. He doesn’t. The commercial that has so angered the president makes for a convenient excuse. Absent that, he’d have found another one.

Muslim grooming gangs targeted ‘tens of thousands’ of children ‘because they are White’

Award-winning broadcaster, writer, and former politician Sir Trevor Phillips has said that Muslim grooming gangs have targeted “tens of thousands” of White children across Britain, describing the abuse as “industrial” in scale and protected by political fear.

Speaking to Times Radio, Phillips said the ongoing grooming gangs inquiry has been hindered by authorities’ reluctance to confront the link between race and sexual predation.

John Ivison: Canadians can’t wait much longer for Carney to accomplish something

Veteran British journalist Andrew Marr offered a dystopian view of the U.K.’s politics in this week’s New Statesman magazine. It’s an article that should probably be viewed as a cautionary tale by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government.

Marr said that Britain has become ungovernable and the postwar political establishment is collapsing, with the Conservatives and Labour parties haemorrhaging votes, while Nigel Farage’s populist Reform UK party soars in the polls .

“The nation’s patience has snapped,” he said, with repeated failures bringing an end to the politics of management and the emergence of the politics of outrage and disgust.

Troubling claims made by Zohran Mamdani after story about Muslim aunt being too scared to ride subway after 9/11 turned out to be false

New York’s socialist mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani is battling a credibility crisis after admitting he lied about a family story tied to 9/11 – and is now facing mounting questions over a series of other controversial claims about his background, identity and finances.

On Monday, Mamdani, 34, was forced to clarify his widely publicized story about a Muslim ‘aunt’ who, he claimed, stopped riding the subway after the 2001 terror attacks because she feared harassment.

The Assemblyman, who is the favorite to become New York City mayor in next Tuesday’s election, admitted that the woman was not his aunt at all.

It is the latest in a series of attacks on boats the US says have been carrying drugs in both the Pacific and Caribbean.

Opposition parties can’t afford to call Liberals’ bluff on budget vote, say pollsters

Whether or not the Liberals are bluffing when expressing doubts that next week’s federal budget will pass, no opposition party can risk trying to bring down the government, according to pollsters. But to maintain power, the Grits need to convince voters they’ve done everything to ensure the budget succeeds.

“If the Liberals are confident that walking away from the table will get them a better deal on the other end, and more power [in Parliament], then they’re going to do that,” said Abacus Data CEO David Coletto, adding that the party itself stands to gain the most from an election.

LILLEY: Yelling, F-bombs, threats and the breakdown of Canada-U.S. relations

Carney don’t care, he’s gonna eat!

On Monday night, as baseball fans turned their attention to the World Series, a gathering at the National Gallery in Ottawa that was supposed to celebrate the cross-border relationship turned sour.

Pete Hoekstra, Donald Trump’s ambassador to Canada, was seen tearing a strip off David Paterson, Ontario’s representative in Washington. It’s been described by those who witnessed it as a heated exchange, a one-way conversation, and yelling, with plenty of F-bombs.
