China is preparing for a different kind of war. Canada is still preparing for yesterday’s. The defining geopolitical struggle of the twenty-first century will not be fought solely with tanks, warships, or fighter aircraft. Increasingly, it will be contested through factories, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, supply chains, advanced manufacturing, and technological innovation. Beijing understands this. Most Western governments, including our own, are only beginning to catch up.

It only took hours for tens of thousands of Moroccan illegal aliens to invade the Spanish territory of Ceuta this week. Removing those who remain will take far longer — if Spain even manages to remove them, given a recent court ruling that prohibits immediately deporting migrants who arrive by sea, as many did.

According to a poll released two weeks ago by Abacus Data, Mark Carney and the Liberals hold a six-point lead over Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives, 43 per cent to 37 per cent. Nothing startling there, most pollsters have the Liberals as much as 10 points ahead.
But just beneath the headline numbers, Abacus shows some intriguing facts about the Canadian electorate.

There may be no more hazardous exercise for a Canadian newspaper columnist these days than attempting to interpret Donald Trump’s trade policies. To suggest that there might be some logic behind his moves to undo the rules of the global trading system that he insists have been skewed against the United States is to invite accusations of gaslighting on behalf of the most mendacious, immoral and incompetent U.S. President of the past 250 years.

A madman gunned down two people and wounded several others at a brand new In-N-Out Burger in Idaho on Saturday, sending panicked patrons running for their lives.
