More than 23,000 Canadians died on medical wait-lists in the past year, new report finds

A new report is raising alarm over growing wait-list deaths in Canada.

The report from public policy think tank SecondStreet.org revealed that at least 23,746 patients died in Canada while waiting for surgeries or diagnostic procedures between April 2024 and March 2025.

The figures are a three per cent increase from the previous year and push the total number of reported wait-list deaths since 2018 to more than 100,000.

Well so long as some 3rd World flotsam got superior care to a Canadian citizen then I guess that’s all right.

Arrest warrant issued for Nestlé boss over ‘substandard KitKats’

Arrest warrants have been issued for senior Nestlé executives in Bangladesh after their KitKats were found by the local food inspectorate to be “substandard” and a risk to public health.

The chocolate-covered wafer bars imported into Bangladesh have too much acidity and too little milk solids, likely meaning that they were rotten, according to food inspectors.

Nusrat Sahara Bithi, a special metropolitan magistrate at a food safety court in Dhaka, has asked the police to arrest Deepal Abeywickrema, the MD of Nestlé Bangladesh, and Riasad Zaman, the company’s public policy manager, after laboratory tests confirmed that KitKat chocolates imported and sold in Bangladesh failed to meet legally required quality standards.

F-35 beat Gripen fighter jet ‘by a mile’ in 2021 Defence Department competition

The competition focused on each fighter jet’s capabilities in defending the North American continent and the likelihood of success in various missions against modern military forces.

The F-35 got a score of 95 per cent on military capabilities, with a total of 57.1 points out of 60.

By contrast, the Gripen-E finished with a score of 33 per cent, netting 19.8 points out of 60, according to the Department of National Defence (DND) ranking obtained by Radio-Canada.

Carney says ‘who cares’ comment on Trump talks was ‘poor choice of words’

Prime Minister Mark Carney said Tuesday his recent reply to a question about the state of trade talks with the U.S. — “Who cares?” — amounted to “a poor choice of words.”

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre hammered the prime minister over his comment during question period in the House of Commons Tuesday.

“Before the election he promised ‘elbows up.’ After, it was, ‘Who cares?’ Before the election, he said the tariffs were an ‘existential crisis.’ Now he says they’re not a burning issue,” Poilievre said.

Members of Parliament from multiple parties slammed Stellantis on Tuesday for failing to show up to a committee hearing about the federal government’s multimillion-dollar funding deals with the global automaker.

Ukraine Drops Aid Audits in US Peace Plan – WSJ

Ukraine has reportedly removed a key clause from the controversial US peace plan that would have required auditing all international aid.

Originally, according to The Wall Street Journal, the plan called for a full verification of Ukraine’s foreign assistance, aimed at curbing corruption.

The new version replaces that requirement with broad amnesty for all parties for actions taken during the war.

A senior US official told reporters that other conditions will still be carefully negotiated with Kyiv.

Those are different points, but related.”

He subsequently clarified that gender equality remains a priority for Canada, but that things like gender-based violence are “an issue of justice,” and that, “Different countries put a different priority on it.… But by discussing strategies and approaches, my experience is that I think that’s part of our policy, as well.”

AI could replace half of American jobs, says report

About half of American jobs could be replaced by artificial intelligence, according to a report by the McKinsey Global Institute.

The American consultancy’s analysis found that robots and AI agents could automate more than half of US work hours, both mental and cognitive, using technology that is available today, if companies redesigned how they did things.

Most of the roles at risk — about 40 per cent — involve the kinds of drafting, processing information and routine reasoning that AI agents can do. Hiring is slowing in some such jobs, such as among paralegals, administrative and office support workers and programmers, the research found.

Quebec to extend religious symbols ban, outlaw university prayer rooms in new bill

MONTREAL – The Quebec government will table a new bill this week to strengthen secularism rules in the province, including a ban on prayer rooms in colleges and universities.

The bill, to be tabled Thursday, will deliver on the government’s promises to prohibit prayer in public places, and to extend the province’s religious symbols ban to daycare workers.

It would also impose conditions for government funding of private religious schools, including that they not teach religion during classroom hours.
