Canada Has Sixth-Highest Suicide Rate in Americas, Says First Study of Its Kind

A new study ranks Canada as having the sixth-highest suicide mortality rate in 2019, out of 33 countries in North, Central, and South America.

Conducted by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and published on Feb. 23 in The Lancet Regional Health, the study is the first of its kind to examine the impact of specific contextual factors associated with national suicide rates in the Americas, according to CAMH.

In the fifth week of his murder trial, Alex Murdaugh took the stand.

Over nearly 10 hours testifying in his own defence, the crowded courtroom in Walterboro, South Carolina, would see two versions of Mr Murdaugh. One seemed tired, his voice lilting and thin. His clothes hung loose; months in prison had whittled down his formerly heavy frame. He rocked back and forth, shook his head from side to side, and wept.

The other seemed much more like the man that other witnesses had described – savvy and charming, once a formidable player in the state’s clubby legal circuit. This Mr Murdaugh addressed the jury directly, was relaxed and in control.

“What a tangled web we weave,” he told them.

This was one creepy family with a new rumour that the sons beat a local boy to death for fun.

RCMP probing reports of ‘heinous’ war crimes in Ukraine … but has no time for those Communist China – Liberal Party conspiracy theories!

The RCMP says it is investigating serious allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity stemming from Russia’s war on Ukraine — but it warns that getting cases to the prosecution stage could take years.

“We really try to manage expectations, to say this may be quite a process to investigate something,” said Cpl. Kate Walaszczyk, an investigator with the RCMP’s Ukraine war crimes unit.

“It can take quite some time.”

A member of the same Virginia school board that came under fire for withholding information about students’ scholarships has raised eyebrows by saying the Battle of Iwo Jima, a major US victory against the Japan in World War II, was ‘evil’ and should not have happened.

The comments were made Thursday by Fairfax County board member Abrar Omeish, 28, in reference to the Day of Remembrance, a day of observance for the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. The holiday occurs on the same calendar day as the first US landings on the island of Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945.

A mother was so terrified of catching Covid that she locked herself and her son in their two-bed flat for three years.

Munmun Majhi, 33, and her son, aged 10, were rescued by police on Wednesday February 22 after they spent three years locked inside their home in the city of Gurugram, in Haryana State, India.

The 33-year-old mother was so petrified that they would contract the virus if they stepped outside, that she did not let her husband, Sujan Majhi, enter his own home just one day after the first lockdown.

BC Teacher Fired After Comment on Residential School Deaths

A B.C. high school teacher was escorted out of his classroom by two staff members after telling students the majority of residential school deaths were caused by illness.

“I was walked out like a criminal. They can’t walk a teacher out of school unless the teacher is a direct harm and immediate harm to children,” Jim McMurtry of Abbotsford, B.C., told The Epoch Times. “I wasn’t a harm to children because I made one comment that was historically true.”

The University of Cambridge barred white working-class students from one of its postgraduate courses, the Telegraph can reveal.

The institution’s School of Arts and Humanities internally promoted “an exciting new widening participation project” that will “give an opportunity for students from under-represented groups to experience postgraduate research at Cambridge”.

The school, one of six at Cambridge that oversee degrees across all the colleges, told lecturers it was “more reliant on Oxbridge applicants than most other schools”, at around 40 per cent per year, compared to 25 to 30 per cent university-wide.

A mental health advocate has launched a furious defense for the 6’6″ boy, 17, who attacked and knocked a teaching aide unconscious after she took his Nintendo Switch away from him.

Sue Urban – whose 17-year-old son Nicholas graduated from Matanzas High School before taking his own life – has responded to the incident where a 17-year-old special needs student, who weighs 270 pounds, attacked his teaching aide on Tuesday.

Neither the student nor the teaching aide’s names have been released publicly.
