Nigerian woman dodges deportation due to fears of being made a mistress
A Nigerian woman has managed to stave off deportation from Canada by arguing that she feared a powerful businessman in her homeland who wanted to make her his mistress.
Amina E-Osmund Ekpo was slated to report for removal from Canada earlier this week. But a Federal Court judge granted her an urgent stay Tuesday while the 47-year-old waits to see if another judge will grant a review of an immigration officer’s refusal to give Ekpo a pre-removal risk assessment (PRRA) — her last-ditch bid to stay in Canada.

UK Govt to Pressure Social Media to Boost ‘Trusted‘ BBC: Report
The British government is reportedly planning to pressure large social media companies to actively promote the BBC and other legacy media outlets, in a bid to confront “disinformation”.
Amid increasing attempts by the UK government to police mainly American social networks, including the impending ban on under-16s, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s administration is said to be interested in fundamentally altering algorithms in favour of so-called trusted news outlets.

B.C. is facing a glut of empty condos. Thousands of Metro Vancouver units are sitting empty and some developers are facing insolvency.
Now, some housing experts are questioning a plan by the federal and provincial governments to buy some of those vacant units and turn them into affordable housing.
They say it amounts to a multi-billion dollar bail out for developers who refuse to lower prices to reflect a sluggish real estate market.

Human rights museum readies opening of Palestinian exhibit amid criticism
WINNIPEG — The Canadian Museum for Human Rights says an exhibit about displaced Palestinians is to go ahead as planned, despite criticism that it’s a potentially one-sided story.
The exhibit, opening June 27, focuses on people affected by the Nakba, Arabic for catastrophe, when about 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced in 1948 during fighting over control of what is now Israel.
