Defence minister says Khamenei was a ‘force for evil,’ as divisions emerge among Liberals over backing of U.S. strikes

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — Canada’s defence minister says the Liberal party is a “big tent” as divisions emerge over its decision to back the U.S. strikes against Iran, calling its supreme leader who was killed in the assaults a “force for evil.”

David McGuinty travelled to Australia alongside Prime Minister Mark Carney on the second part of a three-part trip to India, Australia and Japan to drum up new investments into Canada. Carney is set over the next few days to meet with Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who also offered his support for the strikes.

In a weekend social media video that was “liked” by a handful of other Liberal MPs, rookie Victoria MP Will Greaves said Carney’s support for the strikes, which killed Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei and sparked an escalated Middle East conflict, “feels different” from the prime minister’s Davos declaration of a Canadian foreign policy rooted in “independence, consistency and principled pragmatism.”

The following month, the mayor took to Facebook to share her grievances, highlighting that “when landlords refuse to act over and over, the city can step in, take on the repairs directly, and charge it back to the landlord.

“It’s time to fix what’s broken,” she added.

In an interview with CBC News on Saturday, Commissioner Dinesh K. Patnaik, echoed sentiments of a mutually beneficial economic strategy, which he believes includes a large increase of Indian immigrants.

At an anti-war demonstration in Los Angeles on Saturday, the 88-year-old Fonda said, “This is a desperate immoral act in the hopes that he (Trump) can score a victory and be declared war President. This political trick will generate support. I truly believe that enough people in this country have learned the lessons of the Vietnam War, the Iraq War, the war in Afghanistan, and other unnecessary and illegal wars, that we can say loud and clear: The people of the United States are here to tell the Trump administration, ‘You may wage this war in our names, but not with our consent.’

CBC worried some nations may actually support the Iran attack

Wary U.S. allies try to avoid getting drawn into criticizing Washington or attacking Tehran

As American and Israeli war planes finished their first attacks against Iran over the weekend, carefully worded statements from Western allies started to roll out.

Iran “must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon,” said a spokesperson for the British government. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he shared the U.S.’s interest in ending “this regime’s terror.” French President Emmanuel Macron insisted on diplomacy.

All said they weren’t involved in military action, but carefully skirted judgment of the legality of U.S. actions. No loud applause, no condemnation. Just “whispered warnings” about what it could spark, said French newspaper Le Monde.

I bet CBC hates this…
