The Shifting Landscape of Islamist Terror Since 2001

Twenty-five years after 9/11, the United States faces a disquieting paradox. On the one hand, the country has largely been spared another major terrorist attack. Only one lethal incident directed by a foreign terrorist organization has succeeded on American soil since 9/11: the 2019 shooting at Naval Air Station Pensacola by a Saudi al-Qaeda operative, which killed three sailors and wounded eight others. This record is a towering achievement. In the dark and fearful days after 9/11 and during the early years of the war on terror, such an outcome was a matter of hope rather than certainty. The horrific attacks in Madrid in 2004, London in 2005, Mumbai in 2008, Paris in 2015, Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday in 2019, and Moscow in 2024 underscore the importance of the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations and the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 in keeping the United States safe from another catastrophic attack.

New Poll Devastates Democrats Ahead of Midterms

I recently wrote about pollster Patrick Ruffini’s deep dive into more than 3,000 polls conducted over the past four election cycles, which found that pollsters overestimated Democrats by an average of 3.7 points, with that error ballooning to roughly 5.9 percentage points during the summer months before correcting in the fall.

The correction may have arrived, and it is not pretty for Democrats.

EU’s ability to defend against invasion remains in doubt, finds official report

The EU’s ability to respond to a foreign invasion by 2030 remains in doubt due to a continuing reliance on the US and fragmented national defence systems, according to a report from its official auditor.

The European court of auditors (ECA) said the EU was much better prepared than before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine of 2022, but achieving its goal of defence readiness by the end of the decade would be difficult.

“Achieving defence preparedness in the EU by 2030 remains challenging,” said Marek Opioła, an ECA member who led the review of the EU’s defence policy published on Thursday. “There are still major difficulties such as fragmented national systems or industrial bottlenecks. We also still rely on the United States.”

Canada’s Living-Standards Gap with US Has More Than Doubled This Century, Accelerating Since 2014: Report

The living standards gap between Canada and the United States has more than doubled over the past 25 years as Canada increasingly falls behind its southern neighbour, a new study suggests.

The steepest drop, however, occurred post-2014, according to a newly released report from the Fraser Institute.

Up until then, Canada maintained a comparable performance to the United States and, in some cases, even outperformed it across several indicators, said Fraser Institute director of fiscal studies Jake Fuss in the report he co-authored with senior policy analyst Grady Munro and senior economist Joel Emes.

U.S. Officials: Chinese Shipping Giant Uses Cargo Ships to Spy on Military Communications

China’s state-owned shipping giant COSCO has secretly equipped commercial vessels with sophisticated technology to collect military communications near the United States and other countries, according to senior Trump administration officials.

Two U.S. officials told Reuters that COSCO has maintained a decades-long intelligence relationship with Beijing, allowing China to collect communications signals from ships and aircraft operating across North America, Europe and Asia.

The equipment aboard COSCO vessels consists of “sophisticated signals intelligence collection” systems rather than ordinary communications hardware, the officials said.

Over the summer, a coordinated cyberattack targeted operational technology at more than 30 community water systems in Minnesota. The FBI later reported similar incidents in at least seven states. The ramifications were significant enough for Congress to get involved, prompting the introduction of the “Water Cyber Shield Act” last week, which would increase cybersecurity funding and empower the EPA to help prevent future attacks on water infrastructure.

Trump is winning his war for oil while the whole world roots against him

President Donald Trump’s supposed weekslong war on Iran has now trudged into months, but while it’s hard to say whether he’s winning his war over the country’s suicidal dictatorship, it’s becoming increasingly clear that, against all odds and a concerted, anti-American psy-op, the White House is winning its war for oil independence.

In a narrative-defying note to investors, analysts at Goldman Sachs last week reported that oil flows through the Persian Gulf have risen to two-thirds of their pre-war levels, with 8 million to 10 million barrels per day of oil specifically transiting the Strait of Hormuz and another 7 to 8 million bpd circumventing the strait through U.S. Navy escorts, the Saudi East-West pipeline, and the UAE’s Fujairah pipeline. All in all, total oil and gas transit is up to 15 to 16 million bpd versus the March nadir of just 5 to 6 million bpd.

Venezuela’s oil fields will reportedly require an investment in the billions to rehabilitate neglected infrastructure. A decrease in the price at the pump is unlikely for some time.

A record 38% of Republicans say Canada is unfriendly or an enemy of the U.S.

President Donald Trump recently imposed a 50% tariff on many Canadian goods, a move most Americans are strongly or somewhat opposed to, the latest Economist/YouGov Poll finds. 58% of Americans are opposed to raising tariffs on goods imported from Canada, while only 26% support doing so.

President Donald Trump has been praised after it was revealed woke American professors are being poached by Canadian universities, including an academic who teaches transgender philosophy.

California State University philosophy professor, Talia Mae Bettcher, who is transgender, is among the many American-based educators who have packed their bags and headed north to Canada to become a part of the $541 million research funding project.

‘I knew I had to leave,’ Bettcher, who is a native Canadian but taught in Los Angeles, told The University of Waterloo, her new home.

400,000 California Voters Didn’t Provide Any ID at Registration

Because the state of California allows people to register online without providing any proof of identity, anyone could register to vote and under any name. Hundreds of thousands of people have done just that, and it once again raises the question of just how solid Democrat control in California would be without fraud.
