A medal awarded to a high-ranking Royal Canadian Air Force officer is raising questions about this country’s involvement in the U.S.-Israel war with Iran.

Late last month, the Government of Canada announced that Col. David K. Turenne, a former CF-18 fighter pilot, had been approved for the Meritorious Service Cross. That medal recognizes military deeds “performed in an outstandingly professional manner, according to a rare high standard that brings considerable benefit or great honour to the Canadian Forces,” according to its official description.

Americans hold Canadians in high esteem. The reverse, not so much

Despite all the trade-war rhetoric and “51st state” comments from the White House, Americans on the whole still have positive feelings toward their neighbours to the north. But from this side of the border, it’s a different picture.

A poll by Canada’s Angus Reid asked people from both countries about their perceptions of the other. It found that almost half of Canadians hold a negative view of Americans, with 29 per cent choosing “unfavourable” and another 19 per cent “very unfavourable.”

El Sayed backs away from Hasan Piker’s controversial takes ahead of general election

Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul el Sayed on Sunday said he disavowed Twitch streamer Hasan Piker’s statement that the United States “deserved” the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

El Sayed has attracted controversy for repeatedly campaigning with Piker, an increasingly popular political influencer, over that statement, among others. After previously declining to condemn Piker’s 9/11 comment, el Sayed did so over the weekend, though he suggested calls to distance himself from the rhetoric were reminiscent of cancel culture.

Islamist Michigan candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s full name has a Mohammed in there. It’s Abdulrahman Mohamed El Sayed. Now unlike Barack Hussein Obama, whose name was a bit hard to place for Americans without the ‘Hussein’, there’s not a lot of ambiguity about it.

Abdul El-Sayed isn’t exactly Jack Smith or Bob Jones.

Pentagon presses defense firms to build weapons as Iran war depletes stocks

The Pentagon is asking the U.S. defense industry to rapidly escalate the production and delivery of weapons, including munitions that are in extreme shortage due to the war with Iran, according to a Defense Department memo obtained by The Washington Post.

Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg wrote to industry leaders on Wednesday, saying they had no more than 21 days to submit plans to “drive significantly faster, more aggressive delivery schedules and/or increased production for critical capabilities,” according to the memo, which is previously unreported.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) says she hasn’t “ruled out the possibility” of a 2028 presidential bid as a new poll shows the progressive lawmaker gaining ground among Democratic voters in New Hampshire.

“I haven’t ruled out the possibility,” Ocasio-Cortez said on ABC News’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos Sunday, adding that she was “very humbled” by the “tremendous amount of support” she has received.

Both Canada and the U.S. have been quietly shadowing two Chinese icebreaking research ships in Arctic waters off Alaska over the last couple of weeks.

The Xue Long (Snow Dragon) and Xue Long (Snow Dragon) 2 sailed north through the U.S. exclusive economic zone in the Bering Sea in July, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The appearance of Chinese research ships every summer in the Arctic Ocean over the last few years has been a subject of growing concern among security and defence officials.

US accused of meddling in British politics with $500,000 grant for ‘public education’ courses

The US embassy in London is offering grants of up to half a million dollars for new “public education” programmes in what has been criticised as interference in British domestic politics.

Using language that the pro-Trump Maga movement has sought to appropriate, a funding notice identifies a goal of fostering a “national conversation” about “shared civilizational values” underpinning US-UK ties. Priority will go to applicants aiming to celebrate “freedom of speech” and “limited government”.

It comes after senior Trump officials voiced sharp criticism of British authorities and repeated misinformation on a range of fronts including abortion and digital regulation, and allied with European far-right movements in attacks on hate speech and immigration policies.

Donald Trump on Thursday signed two executive orders that the White House said aims to restrict eligibility for birthright citizenship and ban “birth tourism”.

The Right might construct a “freedom” flag, which would stand in stark contrast to the flag of the Left: a raised fist decorated with small anarcho-feminist and transgender icons — with the middle finger extended.
