The Conservatives want to change the Criminal Code to eliminate what they say is a double standard in the justice system that allows non-citizens to get lighter sentences than Canadians who have been convicted of the same crime.
“When it comes to sentencing non-citizens, Canada has essentially adopted a form of two-tier justice,” Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner said Wednesday in Ottawa.
“This offends all principles of fairness that should be foundational to our justice system.”
When a mob violently attacked two people in downtown Cincinnati last week, video of the beat-down spread across social media. But not a single major television network covered the story. It didn’t fit the mainstream media’s narrative about racial violence in America. The victims were white, and as of Wednesday police had arrested six black suspects for their alleged roles in the public pummeling.
Today’s media seems to conflagrate over violence only when the perpetrator is white and the victim is black. Then the cameras roll, protests erupt, and hashtags fly. But when the races are reversed, the mainstream media buries the incident or ignores it entirely. The same is true of black-on-black violence.

A teacher who was sacked after saying Lucy Connolly was a victim of “two-tier policing” says he has been persecuted for being a Christian.
Simon Pearson, 56, was accused of Islamophobia after saying in a private Facebook group that Connolly should not have been jailed, and believes he would still be in a job if he had been accused of offending Christians and not Muslims.
Child rape is ignored while a Christian preacher is arrested
Last week, three men were found guilty of raping young girls in Rotherham. The rapes took place 25 years ago, but the wheels of justice move very slowly for grooming gang offenders. The three men are Sageer Hussain (who is already in prison for other rape offences), Kesur Ajaib and Mohammaed Makhmood.
The first girl was 14 years old when she was raped in 1999 by Ajab and Makhmood. Ajaib made conversation with her and plied her with alcohol before luring her into an alleyway where he raped her. Makhmood raped her on another occasion after leading her to a nearby graveyard.
