‘I don’t blame them,’ says instructor after Quebec requires new Ontario truckers to take exam

Members of Ontario’s trucking industry say they understand why Quebec will require inexperienced drivers from Ontario to take practical exams, citing concerns over insufficient training.

“I don’t blame them. It’s unfortunate,” said Gus Rahim, president of Ontario Truck Driving School.

Some schools that offer training in Ontario — the first province to introduce mandatory entry-level training for truckers — have been found by Ontario’s auditor general to be cutting corners, and Rahim says that’s been a serious concern for the reputation of all schools and for road safety.

‘Why are hardened criminals being allowed to remain?’ Non-citizen convicted of manslaughter sentenced for drug and gun charges

A non-citizen with a manslaughter conviction was under court-ordered supervision when police found a loaded handgun, cocaine and fentanyl in his car.

David Jajua, 34, was sentenced to six-and-a-half years last month in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

Don’t need them, don’t want them

After months of protesting outside Queen’s Park, hundreds of applicants who say they were wrongly caught up in Ontario’s crackdown on immigration fraud are taking their fight to court.

A panel of three judges is scheduled to hear a judicial review on July 8 involving applicants whose Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) applications were returned last year. The applicants argue the province unfairly grouped legitimate workers with fraudulent applications by returning thousands of files without individually assessing them.

We have been abused by our elite scammers.

When I’m describing my early years to my children it often feels like I’m talking about a journey made by time machine. At the age of 12 — a child myself — I was babysitting other people’s children. I should not have been trusted to look after a peanut butter sandwich, but concepts like safety were more fluid in those days.

I worked three part-time jobs to put myself through university. One of them was at the fur-coat storage department at Eaton’s, and just try explaining that to young people. “Fur storage” and “Eaton’s” are concepts equally lost in the mists of time.

Only at the Star would a columnist gaslight their own kid.

I am not sure why the authors of the study failed to mention mass immigration’s role in youth joblessness but I have my suspicions.
