“Islamonazi” and “Islamofascist” reveal ignorance of Islam, which encompasses much more than Nazism or fascism ever could. Contrary to common assumptions, such terms downplay the nightmare that is Islam. It is easy to fall into seeing Islam as “just another religion” and perceive those of its adherents who wouldn’t hurt a fly as practising a milder variant of the religion of their more bloodthirsty brethren.

Some non-Muslims even do their “moderate” Muslim friends the favour of expelling their “extremist” counterparts out of the category “Muslim” and relegating them to a new category, “Islamists”, who, once so expelled, no longer practise Islam, but “Islamism”. In this simplistic mind-game, the proponents of “Islamism” have yet to identify the Islamist scripture that is not a Muslim scripture, an Islamist ritual that is not a Muslim ritual, the Islamist doctrine that is not a Muslim doctrine, the Islamist prophet who is not the Muslim prophet and the Islamist Allah who is not the Muslim Allah. When they “clarify” that Muslims want to live in peace, while “Islamists” want to take over the state, they merely confirm their ignorance of Islam.

German prosecutors on Thursday charged the suspect behind a fatal knife attack at a local festival in the western German city of Solingen.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Issa Al H., was charged with three counts of murder, 10 counts of attempted murder and membership in the “Islamic State” (IS) terror group.

The Solingen knife attack and a series of similar incidents shook Germany and fueled the heated political debate about migration and deportation in the months leading up to last week’s federal election.

As millions of Germans get ready to celebrate the annual pre-Lent carnival season, police have increased security after a spate of deadly attacks and have warned the public not to dress up as police officers or carry replica guns as part of their costumes.

The city of Cologne, one of the main bastions of the Karneval traditions, has said it will deploy all available officers on the streets starting on Thursday, Weiberfastnacht or Old Wives’ Day, when the week-long season starts in earnest. There are street parties and women are allowed to cut off men’s ties and storm town halls with impunity.

‘Let’s be clear, we don’t have blasphemy laws in the UK.’ So said Jonathan Reynolds, the UK’s business secretary and premier solicitor impersonator, to the BBC earlier this week. Reynolds was pushing back against US vice-president JD Vance, who gave European leaders a very public dressing down at the Munich Security Conference last week for censoring their voters, and Britain for criminalising its Christians. Of course, Reynolds’s denial was about as trustworthy as his CV.

Since July 29 sleep, however fitful, has become vanishingly rare. Before bed, the girls insist on checking again and again that every door in the house has been locked. They pore over doorbell video, looking for shapes in the dark.
