There are many questions to be asked after Saturday night’s terror attack at a Pride event in Berlin. One thing that does seem pretty clear is the cause. Everything we know about the culprit, 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, points to the fact that his crimes were motivated by his Islamist beliefs.

Berlin’s Senate Department for Interior Affairs confirmed that the fugitive suspect in a Saturday van ramming during Berlin Pride was shot dead in a police operation on Sunday.

Spain recorded the highest number of arrests related to suspected Islamist terrorism in the European Union during 2025, according to Europol’s latest annual terrorism report.

The report states that Spanish authorities arrested 117 people on suspicion of Islamist-related terrorism offenses over the course of the year, the highest figure among all EU member states.
