Germany Arrests Chinese Woman on Espionage Charges

A Chinese woman accused of spying on Germany’s defence industry was arrested in Leipzig on Tuesday, October 1st. The woman is “strongly suspected of acting as an intelligence agent for a Chinese secret service,” federal prosecutors said in a statement.

Named only as Yaqi X., the woman worked for a logistics services company, including at Leipzig/Halle Airport in eastern Germany. She is alleged to have used her position to gather information on “the transport of military equipment and persons with connections to a German arms company.”

Syrian Man Injures 31 People, German Authorities Ignore Signs of Islamism

The rampage in Essen was more reminiscent of a terror attack than a ‘domestic dispute.’

A 41-year-old Syrian man set fire to two buildings, rammed his vehicle into a grocery store, and threatened passers-by with a machete in the western German city of Essen. While authorities and mainstream politicians are treating the case as an act of revenge by a mentally deranged man against his ex-wife’s new boyfriend, the attack bears the hallmarks of Islamist violence.

According to German media reports, the perpetrator set fire to two residential buildings on Saturday afternoon, injuring 31 people, including eight children who remain in critical condition. Photos circulating on social media show people clambering down ladders to try to escape one of the torched buildings.

Germany: Police arrest man over arson attacks, van crash

Police in the western German city of Essen on Sunday said they had arrested a 41-year-old man for serious arson and attempted murder.

The suspect man was caught in a separate incident later in which a van crashed into two shops, a police spokesman said.

Essen Mayor Thomas Kufen on Sunday said the suspected arson attacks appeared to have been directed against members of the same family.

Several men detained the suspect, who was reportedly wielding a knife and machete, using shovels and poles, before police arrived to arrest him.

According to the police, he is a 41-year-old man from Essen with Syrian nationality.

We’ll have to wait and see if this was sudden jihad or the usual mental illness.

Cem Özdemir, Germany’s agriculture minister and a key member of the Green party, said the country must act now to protect its democracy by making clear to illegal immigrants that there is “no place” for them in Germany.

In an op-ed in the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper, the Left-wing politician said it was his duty to speak out after hearing what had happened to his daughter.

Germany: AfD adds to string of successes in Brandenburg

The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) has once again seen strong electoral gains.

In the state election in Brandenburg, which surrounds Germany’s capital, Berlin, the AfD received 29.2% of the vote, almost 6% more than in 2019. However, it finished second to the incumbent Social Democrats (SPD), the party of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and has little prospect of participating in the new state government since all other parties have ruled out forming a coalition that includes the AfD.

That means they will win outright next go round.

Germany’s Scholz escapes far-right win in home state – exit polls

Germany’s chancellor appears to have narrowly dodged humiliation after exit polls suggested his party has held off the far right in his home state.

Olaf Scholz’s centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD) won Sunday’s regional election in stronghold Brandenburg by just one or two percentage points, according to polls by the two main public broadcasters.

Alternative for Germany (AfD) stood a chance of winning the state, which has been governed by the SPD since German reunification in 1990.

Germany: A follower of radical Islamic ideology detained in plot to kill soldiers

German authorities have detained a Syrian man suspected of planning a machete attack on soldiers in the southern state of Bavaria, prosecutors in Munich said on Friday.

The 27-year-old man is accused of planning an attack on soldiers in the northeastern Bavarian town of Hof. Police officers arrested the man on Thursday in the Hof region.

An investigating judge issued a warrant for his arrest on Friday morning and the suspect was detained shortly afterwards.

This is all happening at a rapid clip ahead of two key events. One is the introduction of border checks, beginning Monday, at all of Germany’s land borders. Two is elections in the eastern state of Brandenburg, which will take place the following week.

Germany risks border chaos and confrontation with EU neighbours after announcing frontier checks in an attempt to return illegal migrants and asylum seekers.

Controls at all German land borders will be introduced for six months from next Monday to stop illegal migrants entering the country, although details of the rules for rejection have not yet been released.

Brandenburg Elections: Another AfD Triumph on the Horizon

Right-wing anti-immigration AfD’s strong performance in last week’s German regional elections (first place in Thuringia and runners-up in Saxony) has evidently propelled the party to the top of the opinion polls in the state of Brandenburg.

The party received around a third of all votes in the elections on September 1st and, according to a recent survey, is set to do the same in another eastern state, Brandenburg, which is holding elections on September 22nd.

The results are a significant milestone in the ongoing struggle between Germany’s ruling elites and the people—something that is playing out in similar ways across the Continent.

While the media would like to characterize these elections along Right/Left—or East/West—lines, the truth is that these elections reflect the divide between the elites and ordinary people.

The rise of ‘left-conservatism’

It’s not often that German regional elections capture the world’s attention, but establishment parties all across the West have good reason to be terrified by Sunday’s results. In the east German states of Thuringia and Saxony, the three ruling parties – the Social Democrats (SPD), Greens and Liberals – came under assault from both ends of the political spectrum. The right-populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) scored an historic victory in Thuringia, winning its first-ever state election. Just as striking was the success of another consciously populist party, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), which emerged from the rubble of the German left.

She preaches old school leftism. Pro-worker, anti-open borders/mass immigration and an avoidance of foreign entanglements.
