Chaos as thousands gather for anti-lockdown protests
There has been chaos in the heart of Sydney as anti-lockdown protesters, many maskless, took to the streets to protest COVID-19 restrictions, sparking police clashes and 57 arrests.
Thousands walked through Sydney’s inner-city, despite the city being in lockdown. Some of the protesters were carrying placards with anti-vaccination messages. Many appeared not to be wearing masks.

His organization’s special focus is on preventing the outbreak of emerging diseases, such as coronaviruses. He was deeply involved with the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) because his organization had funded bat coronavirus research that lab was doing when the COVID-19 outbreak occurred in late 2019.
Canada’s vaccine passport won’t come until December, at the earliest
Leaked presentations reveal that Canada won’t have a national Covid-19 vaccine passport system until December 2021, at the earliest. A total lack of national infrastructure, however, means that could be delayed even further.
The internal PowerPoint presentation, prepared by the Treasury Board of Canada, reveals that even more than a year after the global pandemic hit, Canada still lags other countries in developing a system to issue and recognize proof of immunity to Covid-19.

Coronavirus: Was US money used to fund risky research in China?
Republican Senator Rand Paul alleges that US money was used to fund research there that made some viruses (not the coronavirus) more infectious and more deadly, known as “gain-of-function”.
But his assertion has been firmly rejected by Dr Anthony Fauci, the US infectious diseases chief.
… US researcher and biologist Alina Chan at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard has highlighted issues with the wording of the government’s pause to funding in 2014.
It says that it would stop funding research that “may be reasonably anticipated to confer attributes to influenza, MERS, or SARS viruses such that the virus would have enhanced pathogenicity and/or transmissibility in mammals via the respiratory route.”
This could imply that research on viruses may not intend to produce “gain-of-function”, although that could be the end result of it.

Provincial health officials are reporting 192 new COVID-19 cases today, up from 185 on Thursday and 135 on Wednesday.
‘Vaccine certificates’ called essential to keeping economy open
While it’s still unclear if the Ontario government will even consider implementing a similar “vaccine certificate,” experts, academics and members of the province’s science-based COVID-19 policy advisory group say this kind of measure is not only necessary — it is essential. That is, they say, if we want to go into a store, our workplaces, see a Jays game, get a haircut, make money — get back to being normal.
