The federal government announced the opening of the border to fully-vaccinated Americans on August 9, while holding off on other countries until September 7, arguing that the intervening weeks will allow for protocols at the border to be streamlined.

In preparation for this change, CDC recommends clinical laboratories and testing sites that have been using the CDC 2019-nCoV RT-PCR assay select and begin their transition to another FDA-authorized COVID-19 test. CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses.
Ontario is reporting 172 cases of #COVID19 and over 13,900 tests completed. Locally, there are 48 new cases in Toronto, 23 in Peel Region, 11 in Durham Region and 11 in Hamilton.

The Delta variant of Covid-19 has now been detected in 124 territories worldwide, the World Health Organization (WHO) says.
It is expected to become the dominant variant globally in the coming months, with the WHO predicting that there could be more than 200 million confirmed cases within a matter of weeks.

Ontario is reporting a slight day-over-day drop in new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths on Saturday.
Provincial health officials logged 170 new coronavirus infections, down from 192 on Friday but up from a week ago when 176 cases were reported.

Chaos as thousands gather for anti-lockdown protests
There has been chaos in the heart of Sydney as anti-lockdown protesters, many maskless, took to the streets to protest COVID-19 restrictions, sparking police clashes and 57 arrests.
Thousands walked through Sydney’s inner-city, despite the city being in lockdown. Some of the protesters were carrying placards with anti-vaccination messages. Many appeared not to be wearing masks.
White House Press Sec. Jen Psaki refused on Friday to give a reporter a definitive answer as to how many people in the White House have tested positive for COVID after having been fully vaccinated.
In the face of missed vaccination targets and a rise in COVID-19 infections, the Biden administration and its mainstream media counterparts have selected their scapegoat for the continuation of the pandemic — vaccine-refusing Republicans.
