Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he “won’t give in” to the so-called “freedom convoy” protest in downtown Ottawa.
He made the comments Monday as the trucker convoy still lined the streets around Parliament Hill, with protestors demanding an end to public health mandates, vaccine mandates, and even calling on Trudeau himself to resign.
“I want to be very clear: we are not intimated by those who hurl abuse at small business workers and steal food from the homeless,” he said.
He’s afraid.
The “Freedom Convoy” made up of hundreds of vehicles and reportedly 45 miles long at one point rolled into Ottawa on Saturday as truck drivers in Canada protested the country’s vaccine mandate. The protest has now entered its second day in Canada’s capital, with many of the protesters continuing to demonstrate against vaccine mandates and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The Ottawa police announced on Sunday that its focus would now shift to pushing protesters out of the downtown area as the city attempts to return to normal after the influx of people.
Video has emerged of everyday truckers from St. Jerome, Quebec, being forced to pick up nails off the road that appear purposefully placed by anti-convoy radicals to derail the Freedom Convoy.

In a virtual press conference on Friday, the leader of the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) launched a full-throated charge against the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau government and the provincial governments, accusing them of violating the rights of Canadians with health measures that are the exception, while European countries and American states are lifting their restrictions.
He said that unvaccinated cross-border truckers are safe and should be able to continue their work unhindered at the border. He also condemned similar measures imposed by U.S. authorities at the border, accusing the prime minister of “colluding” with President Joe Biden.
A couple of years ago Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was sending valentines to our noble truckers for keeping Canadians fed through their deliveries. Yet a couple of days before this weekend’s gathering of the aforementioned truckers, who have travelled half of Canada in midwinter, from both directions, to express their concerns and feelings in a peaceful protest, he shoved them to the margins, declaring them a “fringe” and their views “unacceptable.”
As hundreds of trucks and other protesters make their way to Ottawa to demonstrate against vaccine mandates and other public health measures imposed to stop the spread of COVID-19, Marco Mendicino said there must be lines drawn between free speech and risks to public safety.
Critics call for new rules for online fundraisers after protest convoy takes anonymous donations
Critics are calling on the federal government to introduce new rules for online fundraising campaigns after a fundraiser for this weekend’s protest in Ottawa against vaccine mandates raised millions of dollars — in part from anonymous donors and people using fictitious names.
Green Party parliamentary leader Elizabeth May said the GoFundMe fundraiser for the protest convoy raises concerns about whether such campaigns could be used by big businesses or foreign state actors to circumvent Canada’s political financing rules.
“If this isn’t worrying, it certainly exposes a possibility that is very worrying, which is that you can be not a political organization, not registered with Elections Canada but find the right kind of dog whistle and put up a GoFundMe campaign,” she said.

It’s easy to lose track of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s broken promises on the housing crisis.
But it’s imperative to monitor how little he has done to rein in prices that have soared by 85 per cent since his Liberal government was first elected in 2015.
Few things reveal Trudeau’s unwillingness to seriously follow through on his housing rhetoric than his approach to foreign buyers, who most analysts agree have been one of the significant factors jacking up prices.
Up to 2,000 trucks are due on Saturday, but there will be events every day until the convoy receives an answer from the government.
Ottawa police Chief Peter Sloly told a police services board meeting Wednesday that officers had been in been in contact with protest leaders who he said have been co-operative and shared their plans.
But Deputy Chief Steve Bell voiced concern about “parallel groups” that intelligence suggests will also turn up to the protest. The police are trying to reach these groups – as well as counter-protesters – to discuss their aims.
