The Canadian Civil Liberties Association on Friday applied for a judicial review in federal court seeking an order to quash Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to invoke the Emergencies Act on Feb. 14.
The CCLA presents a logical and balanced argument, free of political rhetoric, about why it believes that decision was unconstitutional.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) announced it is suing the Canadian government for invoking the Emergencies Act, arguing the emergency powers are a violation of human rights.
On Monday, the nation of Canada witnessed what should be the most frightening scene a free country can witness. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked Canada’s version of “The Emergency Powers Act.” This effectively has given Trudeau total power over the government and Canada’s citizens. Almost immediately after doing so, he suspended most if not all rights the citizens of Canada enjoy by invoking “Martial Law.”
Canadian Police on Friday moved in to break up the more than three-week-old “Freedom Convoy” demonstration in the capital of Ottawa, as video and photos of the action posted on social media appeared to shock many people.
The Canadian government has developed an incredible talent for talking out of both sides of its mouth. While cracking down on peaceful protesters with both slanderous rhetoric and draconian physical and financial measures, government officials are running around condemning the actions of other governments against their protesters.
The leaders of Ottawa’s police force assumed the trucker protest would last a weekend.
When the Freedom Convoy protest began arriving in Ottawa on Fri. Jan. 28, police assumed it would mostly be gone by Sunday evening, according to a source in the municipal government with insight into the city’s decision-making process (the source was granted anonymity in order to speak freely). This was despite the public pledge by protest leaders to stay until all COVID-19 mandates and restrictions were lifted.
One American commentator observed that even amongst Canadians famed for “niceness,” truly absurd restrictions on freedom will create pushback.
He saw a pivotal symbolic moment in the refusal of citizens to obey the ban on taking fuel and other supplies to the truckers in the face of a police crackdown, describing it as perhaps “the greatest act of civil disobedience in (Canadian) history.”

A group of Canadian clergy sent an open letter to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau earlier this week rebuking him for invoking the Emergencies Act to quell the Freedom Convoy and for other actions they described as “tyrannical.”

Video Appears to Show Police Horses Trampling Canadian Trucker Protesters
OTTAWA — A group involved in the anti-government protest against COVID-19 measures in Ottawa is asking a court to put the brakes on federal use of the Emergencies Act to clamp down on demonstrators.
In submissions Friday to the Federal Court, Canadian Frontline Nurses and member Kristen Nagle seek an injunction staying the Liberal government’s use of the emergencies law and associated measures while their full case plays out in court.
