Pope urges Europe to do more for migrants while visiting gateway island
Pope Leo XIV has called on European leaders to rise to the “momentous challenge” of handling migration as he visited the Italian island of Lampedusa.
The pontiff urged Europe to help new arrivals integrate better and improve conditions in their home countries, during a mass on the island, which receives tens of thousands of migrants a year.
“Those who have lost their lives in this sea are victims both of decisions that were made and of decisions that were not made,” the Pope said.

Migrant who sparked Dublin riots guilty of attempting to murder three children

Riad Bouchaker was convicted on Wednesday for the knife attack in Parnell Square in 2023.

More than 80 asylum seekers set to be moved into £250,000 ‘Migrant Street’ newbuild village homes – sparking fury among residents
Villagers are fighting plans to move 83 asylum seekers into newbuild homes in a development dubbed ‘Migrant Street.’
They say they were told the new development would be affordable housing. But they have since learned that 21 homes have been earmarked for asylum seekers.

Migrants in the US on temporary protected status (TPS) should seek permanent residence or leave, Markwayne Mullin, Homeland Security secretary, said in the wake of last week’s supreme court decision that stripped humanitarian protections from hundreds of thousands of immigrants.
The remarks to CNN’s State of the Union program comes after a decision that could allow Donald Trump’s administration to deport Haitian and Syrian immigrants to home countries plagued by conflict and destitution.

The march, organised under the slogan ‘Justice for All,’ was promoted on social media by several identitarian groups. Louis’s family declined to take part, saying they wished to avoid any political exploitation of their son’s death.
